As I was going through my papers last night to make sure all of the data is in order for my gun list and insurance rider, it dawned on me that four of the pistols in my collection and one rifle was purchased from a dealer that had 10' of water during Katrina and my question is what happens now that the gun shop that did the transfer no longer has records????

nothing

They still probably still have their bound book
even if the 4473 forms are gone

Why are you worried about it ?

most people here would be thrilled if their records from their local shop got destroyed in natural disaster

only concern could be like happened to a member here with a story of the shop reported everything stolen/lost because they were selling stuff illegally

and a pistol he had which he fortunately had a receipt for was listed as lost/stolen when he went to register it or somehow came to the attention of LE

Gun shop here in Pa. burned couple years ago. Had records for probably 50 of my weapons.  All but one bound book was destroyed in fire.  ATF took last book to test if it was arson and they destroyed it in the process!  Cool
