how does the modern speedometer work? on older cars i know that there is a speedo cable, but how does the modern car do this. thanks for you help |
Yep! It all comes from the cars ECU (computer) and is usually a DC signal sent to a heavily damped D'Arsanvol type needle gauge - of course called the speedometer... But the bottom line is that it comes from your cars computer. |

So when you go to the dealership to buy a new car and decide to get the one with 400 miles on it where they say they picked it up from a dealer, it was actually a cross country road trip with the computer reprogrammed to the maximum tire size possible. I looked at a brand new truck one time with 350 miles on it and only about 9/16 tread left on the front tires.
