Does anyone know of any good deals on store-bought computers?

I've looked at tigerdirect and newegg for building a computer, and there are some other sites that I'd heard about but don't recall at the moment. Can someone tell me which ones they'd recommend?

I'd like my computer to handle games well, so I'll be purchasing graphics cards to that end but I'd like to see what y'all have to say about processor, memory, hard drive, etc.

Thanks.

Buy a Alienware, expensive I know, but I have one thats about 6 years old now, and it runs faster then alot of moderatly priced computers you can buy today. Runs as fast as the day I got it too. Best Computer I ever bought, worth every penny

Buy an Apple.

I bought a Compaq PResario and 13 months after owning it this little window on the lower right corner pops up "your version of Windows is not Genuine". I thought WTF? I clicked on it and it went away. A few minutes later the computer shut down.

I restarted it and it froze on the "welcome" screen and popped up an error code saying my version of windows wasn't genuine. WTF? I got this computer from Compaq and they put the software on it. I called Compaq..which merged with HP and they told me for $15 they would send me a Windows XP CD with the same exact software key I already have......but that it won't work because MICROCUNTS were the ones that shut off my computer. So I didn't get help from Compaq since it wasn't their fault.

I call up MicroCUNTS and they tell me they installed WGA onto everyones computers with automatic updates. My computer downloaded and installed "Windows Genuine Authority" and what this little program does is send your CD key straight to their servers when you are online....if they detect more than one computer using that CD Key...KAZAAAM. They shut off your system and disabled it permanently. You lose access to all data and files.

You know how hackers use "CD KEY Generators" and those program randomly make up keys for bootlegged software....well guess what. When they do that they screw over people that payed for their software and there is NOTHING you can do. Read your Windows XP user agreement. MicroCUNTS are only liable for $5 should they accidentally/maliciously disabled your computer software.

Phaaaack them. I ran over that Compaq with my truck and shot it until I wasn't mad anymore. Then I bought an Apple Mini Mac. No problems since.

Completely depending on your budge, tigerdirect, I've found, usually has about the best deals.  What are you looking to spend?

I use newegg. What's your budget? I help people build systems over at the Tom's Hardware Forumz, so feel free to ask. In fact, if you go the War Gaming forum on ARFCOM, there's a thread about a guy wanting to build a PC for gaming - I posted some stuff there that might interest you.

If you know what you want, you can buy the parts through Computer Shopper and save a ton of $$$.  You might also spend a few minutes looking through Ebay and/or Craig's list, sometimes you get lucky.

outpost.com usually has some good specials on complete systems.

Myself, I buy parts, works out cheaper in the long run.

For example, my old computer just died so I ordered some parts:

new intel brand motherboard, open box:  $51
intel E6420 processor:  $180
kingston RAM, 2GB:  $65

With shipping is was $309, and I had a "new" computer.  A "whole" computer with similar specs might have been $600-$700.

This is much like reloaded ammo, I put new components in my recycled case!
