People always told me growing up... "Find a job you like, you will be much happier than being stuck with a job you hate"

Now years later I realize those people were making alot more money, and I enjoy my job, but don't make squat.

Which is better...

Having a job you love and worrying about paying bills or having a job you hate, but with peace of mind finacially?

I think having a job you like that will make you a lot of money.

Depends on how bad you hate the job, or how little money you make. While I need to make enough money to live within my own comfort zone, which isn't really that hard at the moment, there should be a balance between the two.

I love my job but do not make much

the other problem is when you turn a hobby or passion into a job you start to resent it

I would rather be happy than rich.......if being rich brings you happiness, then I guess you need the money.

Do whatever job you have the ability to do that gives you the maximum amount of pay/benefits regardless of how much you hate it.  Hate it for 20 years and have the next 40 doing something you like for a lot less, but with the financial security of the house and savings the first 20 got you.

Money ain't what it's about - despite what society wants you to believe.

I have taken jobs for the money and later regretted it, but being poor sucks.
People will tell you that if you ifnd something you actually like to do, the rest will take care of itself. Thats actually only half true.....you need to be an intelligent person as well. Lots of stupid people do stuff they like all day long...and amount to nothing their whole life. A little horsepower in the old noggin goes a long way....couple that with the pursuit of a dream....bingo.

Sometimes you gotta compromise and ride the line until you learn enough to move into something better suited for you that will give you the salary you want.

I still say that poor sucks, but stressful jobs kill people....really a personal choice.

I know people here don't seem to like LE much, but I work LE and EMS. I work LE at the small town level.

Advancement is still years away. At this point I know I can't even afford to have kids. Every single month some extra problem comes along. After fixing many of them myself I finally had a plumber come to fix a leaky pipe. The cost of parts, plus he charged $30 for labor! I know at this point I can't even afford to have any children.

I am seriously considering giving it up and doing something to make more so I can start a family and be able to support them.

Money

Save while you are young and single cause its always easier to save at that point in your life.

Then invest it well, and invest every portion of your paycheck.

Retire at 40.

Every since I was a kid I wanted to be a LEO. When I graduated from HS I went into the academy spent a month then got a job paying $23 an hour that I don't care for to much but if it makes my families life better I'll do it, beats the $7.00 LEO salary I would have been making. If you want quality of life take the pay IMO

A job you hate will grind you down.  If you manage to reach retirement, your entire youth will have been wasted.  You'll be a bitter old man.

Besides, you could drop dead tomorrow.  Plan for tomorrow, but live for today.

I found out a long time ago that I just can't work at a job I hate.

I once took a job that paid me almost 4X the amount I was currently making. It was more money then I had ever made before. I found out I hated the job. I hated the work I was doing and I did not like the people I was working with. But I was making so much money (for me, at that time). In the end I had to quit.

I can't stand the feeling of dreading/hating to go to work every day. It just puts me in a bad mood all day and stresses me out all the time.

The only way I could work I job I hated, was if I could be financially set for the rest of my life and retire after 6 months to a year of doing that job. Thats the ONLY way I could work a job I hated.

Right now I work a job that I like doing. I don't dread going to work every day. I make enough money to just get by month to month. I don't know how I'm going to retire, no extra money really being saved right now. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Who knows what will happen in the next 20-25 years?

I think I can say I'm "happy" right now. I've been together with my wife for about 14 years and we have a great 11 year old daughter. I "like" my current job well enough, even if I only make enough money to just get by.

We will see what tomorrow brings.
