Hi there! i just bought this Mercworx Sniper with Micarta knife. The handle was a bit uncomfortable, so I sand it with THE FINEST sandpaper(it feels like regular paper). After I sanded I notice the surface became a bit mate compared to before. This make the Micarta handle absorb more sweat, water, dirt. How can I seal this sanded micarta handle in order to protect it, and make it more resistant to allround stuff/dirt? Can I give it a Break Free CLP to seal my sanded micarta handle? Would this ruin the micarta? Thank you all! |

What is "mate"? Matte? Anyway CLP is not a sealant, in my opinion. Try some kind of clear finish that won't mar the micarta because of the solvents. Edited to be more polite. I don't like micarta -seems too much like fiberglass to me. But I don't see how it will get as messed up as you expect. But you COULD continue to polish, maybe with rubbing compound or the clay polishing bars. Is it that big of a deal? 2nd edit - It CAN contain glass fabric. Wear gloves - not good getting that dust in you skin. |

I've been making my own knives for a while. The micarta is waterproof, but is built up layers of either paper, linen, or canvas. Linen and canvas has slight texture when sanded due to the weave. After hand sanding, you should buff the handle on a buffer with a muslin buff using a polishing compound that is not too aggressive. The buffer should be running at about 1800-rpm to avoid burning the compound onto the surface of the micarta. Be very careful during this operation. If the buff catches your blade it can send it back into you at a very high speed (enough to kill). Stand to the side of the buffer. After buffing, apply a wax such as pure carnuba wax or Renaissaice Wax. The wax will fill the "pores" and preserve your finish. If you can't find pure carnuba wax, use a car wax with a lot of carnuba such as Turtle Wax. You could buff with a dremmel type tool if you don't have a bench buffer. Good luck, Mike L. |
Reading and writing - fundamental. See above. He has an excuse - you don't. "therad"??? ![]() He's already learning the language. You're stuck with the IQ you have. |
Thanks for the clarification - Wikipedia has it's limitations. A dust mask is nice to use, too, though the messiest part seems to be over. |

I just put $450 into the blade, no money to buy another buffing system!hout The principal in buffing isn't it the same as rubbing it against something very fine for VERY long time? Maybe I could do this with a fine cloth? (I have alot of timehe PS: I'm in a learning process regarding the english language, mate! This time "mate" was corect, yes? |

If the knife is a Mercworx Sniper Knife (I'm not familiar with it) but from the name I would suspect it has linen Micarta scales as do most of the Tacticool Knives, you can not hurt Micarta don't worry about sealing it. If it happens to be paper Micarta take it to a 600 Grit finish and polish it with a pink compound on a buffer. |

Hi that is right, mercworx is tactical, and I think it is linen micarta! Great so nothing to worry! They say micarta is waterproof, when I dip some water onto that handle it absorbs like a thirsty elephant! Are you guys sure it is water proof? I'll be sad if that handle end up like a spongy and unstable due to water absorb(ment?)/(ing?) I don't remember who wrote that Carbauba wax, but I just checked it out, and it look like a quality wax! I was wondering "why not rub the entire blade with Carnauba wax, since it is so protective"?? Is this a good idea? second I got this local shop who sell standard bee wax could this be used for micarta? Anyway thank you all for the information! At least I think I can leave it as it is! |

Ha ha...ja dansker, kan godt forstå det du skrev! (I just told him that I know what he was writing in danish) As for the knives, yes it is illegale if you don't have permission, but I have permission. GetGunz and prk is very funny in their error-war against each other! I'm sure prk didn't meant anything with my "mate" thing, it was just fun. hat But your situation remind me an old arabian tale about two tribal fighting for 100 years because of two camels in a trade situation! 100 years after many lives were taken, and the two camel was dead for long time ago, but the people still continue to fight, actually most of them didn't even knew why they fought! Now the point in this story is, my "mate"=the arabians camel, and GetGunz and prk is the two tribal fighting against each other. And serveral threads after soon no one really know why GetGunz and prk began that struggle, like the generations of the arabs fighting for a course they barely knew why! He he...you two just remind me about that history! Take care both of you, and stop the fight..you only get old once why not have some good memories than reminding your self a internet struggle because of the word "mate"??!? |
