| Just bought a new laptop and set up a wireless network with a 802.11g wireless router. PC is still hardwired with cat 5 cable into the back of the router. I just tried to fire up limewire and i can see that it is being blocked by a firewall, most likely from the new router. Anyone know how i can bypass the firewall so as i can continue to use limewire? |
| Out of the box, the firewall inside your router (if it does have one) should be set up to block only inbound connections, all outbound is permitted. Can you get out to the net at all? I have a Linux based firewall here at home that allows no inbound connections and I can use Limewire with no problems. |

I would venture to say that it is not likely the router. If in fact it is, go into the routers control panel by typing the routers local ip in the address bar of your browser of choice. Likely it is 168.192.2.1. If not read your routers documentation. Either you have not configured limewire correctly or a soft firewall running on your notebook is blocking it. What type of security software do you have installed? McAfee, Windows live one care, etc.? Also, once you get into the control panel of your router you will likely be able to configure it to log activity. Then you can try to run limewire and if it is blocked you should see something in the log. If it is blocking it then you need to tell it to allow traffic on whatever port limewire uses. It will be the port that your router blocked the traffic on. What make/model or router are you using, what operating system, and what security software do you have installed? eta: does your router have a direct connection to your access point (your cable/dsl modem, etc.) or is there anything in between? |
the default on all the plug it up an run routers from walmart that people take home an hook the wires up an hope it works is 192.168.1.1, unless you specify different or someone else hooks it up i would say its something on the computer like a software firewall as listed above except im asuming he was using limewire and downloading from the hardline, an everything worked wireless does affect some utilities as far as being able to run with wireless, but limewire isnt one of them i still say theres some kinda port blocking inside the router just log in and allow the ports you want, alot of ppl have to do it for gaming |
Limewire worked perfectly fine before i put the new router in the equation last week, and im using my PC (not the new laptop) Im running AVG and whatever software comes with Windows XP. The new router is a Buffalo Technology 802.11g air wireless. PC is running Wondows XP, Vista on the laptop (which im not using just disclosing for disclosures sake) Router does have a direct connection to my cable modem, nothing in between |
Internet is working fine, can go anywhere, but when limeware is booted up it tells me that it is being blocked by a firewall which wasnt the case before i bought this new router last week. |
