When the E.A.S. test signal goes out it only reaches radio and television. With the greater number of people using the internet and watching less and less television or listening to the radio, I wondered why the internet providers haven't implemented an EAS yet? My cable provider sends the EAS right to the cable box and even the front of the box displays EAS when this happens but the web connection is unaffected. |

The Emergency Management Services director for my county was concerned about this very issue. He has proposed to bring back the old Civil Defense sirens since folks are either outside away from radio or TV , and more people are on cable / Satellite systems which are not locally accessable to EMS for alerts. And more people are on the internet, so its harder to get proper notification to those who need it. The county commission is looking into his proposal with great interest. |
