I got bit by a Brown Recluse spider.
I don't feel to good. It is swelling up a lot. Went to the Emergency room Sunday morning
.and the doctor is not to keen. They gave me a big shot of antibiotics.
I don't think the shot is working. I have doctors appointment in the morning, so I
hope he can cut it out.

Something "Normal" can turn into this.

Thats all pretty normal. Don't worry too much. You caught it way early and will be fine. Folks here get bit all the time in the training areas, usually feel like crap for a week to ten days and then get better. Only seen one guy have any complications and that was because he didn't notice it until it erupted.

Oh! That's no bite!! It laid eggs in your arm and soon spider babies will pop out of your ears and face. Best just amputate now.

Brown Recluses are the only creature that scare me absolutely shitless.

I'd rather face off against a pissed off Rattlesnake than a damn brown recluse.  At least I can see the snake coming.

It sounds like the prescription may just be to keep it from getting infected until he sees the doc tomorrow to cut it out.

as I love to recount in "brown recluse threads", I ended up with a sizable chunk of my butt surgically removed due to the bite of one of the little critters.

A simple wet poltice made with this product: www.pascalite.ca/ and placed on the spider bite promptly will completely negate the need for a doctor.

Ask me how I know, I been bitten several times over my life and I NEVER go to the woods without having some Pascalite powder handy.

It is the best product made for brown recluse spider bites and that's just ONE of the things this bentonite powder is good for......

eta - I get mine from these folks here: www.relfe.com/pascalite.html

Did you see the spider?

Lots of "spider bites" aren't spider bites, they're skin infections.. Frequently drug resistant Staph (MRSA).

I'd get that second opinion, and maybe seek out the advice of a dermatologist.  Either way, recluse bite or MRSA, this is something you need to treat aggressively.

The first time I was bitten, doc mistakenly gave me pennicillin, (bad/wrong antibiotic for spider bite such as the brown recluse). I was 11 or so and within 24 hours I had a bad reaction, the pennicillin started acting with the spider venom and I ended up dang near dying.

Spent 2 weeks in the hospital w/ a staff infection thanks to the wrongly prescribed antibiotic; getting a gamagobulin (sp.) shot in the butt every 4 hours. I also lost 28 pounds during those 2 weeks not to mention having a butt that resembled a pin cushion and a nasty hole and eventual scar on my elbow.

Try the product I posted above (unless you got the wrong antibiotic too in which case you'd better get to the hospital quick) and you can never have to worry about needing a doctor again for these types of bites as the pascalite will do the trick.

+1

There seems to be a lot of stuff that is diagnosed as "brown recluse bites" that probably aren't

I'd get a second and third opinion, and if possible, combined treatments so that the assumption of a spider bite doesn't preclude treatment for a different kind of infection.

Good luck!!

Need an I&D; not antibiotics, nitroglycerine.

Brown recluse spiders are common.  Bites from brown recluse spiders are much less common.

Community acquired MRSA is a much more common source for a wound that looks like this these days.

What is the update?

That doesn't look like a brown recluse bite.  My money is on a staph infection.  They seem to be common this time of the year.  I had the same thing and started a similiar thread 2 years ago.  The infection just about killed me.  I am allergic to penicillin and the drugs they gave me didn't work because the bacteria was resistant to antibiotics.

Keep warm compresses on it, and take ALL of the meds and do what the MD says.

Hope you get better soon!

The best thing I've found for brown recluse bites is APIS, it is a pill that rather than taking it orally you use a couple drops of water on about 5 tablets and put it on the bite.  If caught in the first 5 days I've never seen it not work.  Also works on other bites and stings.  Direct DC current also works from a TENS unit, the DC current helps break down the protein based venom rendering inert.  I'm on vacation so I'm getting the evil eye from the wife for being online. Sorry for the lack of details.
