Neighbor has a cat which has pretty much killed everything in the neighborhood, and has decided it seems to like my property more than that of the owners. I am finding #_%)#_%( cat prints all over everything, the truck, the shed, even on a second story porch that the feline hellbeast reached by clawing its way up a one of those portable garage thingies. Whenever I see it I throw stuff at it, branches, toothbrushes, whatever is handy, but still no luck. Effer keeps coming back. "BANG" is not an option as this is suburbia. Any ideas? signed, perturbed in Pittsburgh |
| I bought my son one of those pump shotgun airsoft toys, that needs the heavy BB's. He shot me with it last week and it felt like someone gonked me on the head with a marble. I was really surprised it was that powerful. That was the third time I dropped the F bomb infront of him in 11 years. It will work on the cat. |
Or ammonia solution. There's also a spray out there called "liquid fence" for cats and dogs (as opposed to the wildlife (deer and raccoons) version). It smells like an indian |
have you ever confronted your neighbor to see if they would be responsible with their cat? It's only doing what cats do, and what you likely do whenever you get the chance, hunt. The problem is the cat's owner. |
Already did about their dogs (surrogate kids for an empty nest, who can do no wrong) Liking the super soaker/vinegar idea & ammonia. Also used to toss a capful of bleach in the garbage can to keep raccoons away, don't want to have to make my place (and car) a chemical hell though in the process. (agree that it's the owners, but they are nuts - not worth getting them spun up again, just want to convince the cat that my yard is a BAD PLACE for it to be. |
Combine that approach with the Scarecrow Sprinkler Head and you should be good to go.
|
Sounds like you have anger management issues. There are multiple cats in my neighbor hood and there are still birds everywhere with bird crap on my house, car, gas grill...ect. to prove it. You see cat prints then swear and throw stuff...that pretty much sums up who has the problem. If you want to keep the cat away, get a dog. |
considering that maybe their dogs have run it out of it's home. Anyhow a hose would be good. |
Cat leaves dead critters all over the place, first one in the neighborhood to do so (and have lived here nearly 20 years). Nobody else's pets are a problem, other cats cruise through the yard but don't set up camp in it. Maybe your car isn't worth taking care of, mine is and I don't need it all scratched up, can't leave the windows down or it crawls in, gets into all sorts of stuff in the shed. If you want to tolerate other critters screwing up your stuff, that's your choice. I don't want it on my property, my choice.
|
They got it after the dogs, and the dogs are way to big for their small house so it is no wonder it doesn't want to be there. Lots of other places it can go though besides my place. Normally don't have any problems with cats, but this one is destructive. Couple of good ideas in the thread though, will try em out. |
|
I second the live trap / Rit Fabric Dye idea. Hopefully the owners will get the idea and keep the cat indoors. If you continue to see it, then it's time for more drastic measures (which involve a shovel and a bag of lime). DO NOT confront the owners. Anything that happens or has happend to the cat (like the Rit Dye job) will be blamed on you, even if you didn't do it. Maintain OPSEC. |
![]() THAT is hysterical... |
They should have spent a couple more bucks on a quality photoshop job for thier website. Thats horrible. |
If one was anti-social they might mount a belt-fed on that... |
|
catfood with with some cayenne has worked for me, doesn't hurt 'em but they don't like it either. on a persistant cat that kept crapping in my yard i had tried hoses, cayenne in food, throwing things etc.nothing was working so i got me an el cheapo airsoft a tagged it in the ass while it was trying to crap in my yard. it never crapped in my yard again, but my neighbor was pissed cause it moved to his yard. |

Ammonia and vinegar? I never knew that a weak solution of ammonium acetate was dangerous... Bleach on the other hand... Don't mix bleach with Ammonia OR vinegar ...although bleach and sani-flush generate chlorine quite nicely which isn't very humane. Then again, I never thought decon was humane either. Nicotine Sulfate on the other hand... (pesticide) Still, cats are hard to kill...9 lives and all. I swear I shot one at point blank range and it ran away...came back 2 days later completely unscathed and madder than hell. The next time I was a reasonable distance away and one shot did the trick. Normally I don't shoot cats, they don't really bother me... this one had to go though... |
Out of Vagisil, or is this a Midol moment? |
The deer one cracked me up, too. Crappy photoshops on both of them, but I give the company a solid 8 for the fact they actually use the pics to advertise.
|
and you get that impression of me from that comment because of? |
+1 use a live trap and take it to a kill shelter, maybe not the closest one to your neighborhood. |
they're all photochops. |
sounds like you are way off your rocker. just for curiosities sake, do you own your own home ( or have a mortgage)? |
Why? Because the mangey beast decided to claw it's way up and over a portable garage? Like this one Now I get to tape up all the cute little holes that it put into it. Or because I don't like it scratching up my vehicle? Some of us have nice cars & trucks that we prefer not to be used as scratching posts. Or leaving half-eaten birds & chipmunks all over the place? Raccoons get into the garbage and deer get into the garden, but they don't wreak havoc like this cat. And what does home ownership have to do with it? Or a mortgage? WTH? It's a simple issue, I don't want this cat on my property, and would like to keep it off without resorting to tossing it in a wood chipper. Sheesh. |
