I am taking the LSAT June 11th and am studying for it at the moment. I hate logic games, they suck. For example give this little gem a try. Eight physics students - four majors: Frank, Gwen, Henry, and Joan; and four nonmajors: Victor, Wanda, Xavier, and Yvette - are being assigned to four laboratory benches, numbered 1 through 4. Each student is assigned to exactly one bench, and exactly two students are assigned to each bench. Assignments of the students to benches must conform to the following conditions: Exactly one major is assigned to each bench. Frank and Joan are assigned to consecutively numbered benches, with frank assigned the lowest-numbered bench. Frank is assigned to the same bench as victor. Gwen is not assigned to the same bench as Wanda. 1. Which one of the following could be the assignment of students to benches? (A) 1:Frank, Victor 2:Joan, Gwen 3:Henry, Wanda 4:Xavier, Yvette (B) 1:Gwen, Yvette 2:Frank, Xavier 3:Joan, Wanda 4:Henry, Victor (C) 1:Henry, Wanda 2:Gwen, Xavier 3:Frank, Victor 4: Joan, Yvette (D) 1:Henry, Xavier 2:Joan, Wanda 3:Frank, Victor 4:Gwen, Yvette (E) 1:Henry, Yvette 2:Gwen, Wanda 3:Frank, Victor 4:Joan, Xavier Sorry for the random post but its just pissing me off and I was curious to see what you guys thought. Good Luck.

I didn't think it was all that bad. Studying for it does suck, but the actual material isn't all that hard. The challenge is figuring out boring ass dry problems under a time constraint. Sutdying DOES help, don't skip on it. I only took it once and did decent at 154. I knew I could have gotten in the 160's but I honestly didn't care since I just want to go to the local state school. I was taking classes full time and didn't study hardcore the last 3 months going into the exam. I had done about 1.5 of the LSAT practice test books worth. I did manage to finish each setion on the exam. Lots of people ran out of time and didn't answer all the questions. I never did a formal prep class. Pick up some of the more basic LSAT study guides at Barns and Nobel. They give generic ideas of using a systematic approach to starting those kinds of problems. Also practice against the clock. IMO don't use those timer aids, you typically cant use them in the exam anyway, and its the time that gets you, not the difficulty. Afterall its logic and everyone could eventually figure it out. |
I love these. I did very well on an LSAT practice test.
I think you mistyped the question, because none of the answers are correct. If frank must be assigned to the lowest bench then A is the only possible answer but it is not correct because Joan and Gwen are together and they are majors.z |
I wouldn't use FSU and Stetson as a backup to UF..... My wife got into several top 25 law schools, but DIDN'T get into UF. |
Just what I did and it left C. |

<-- took the LSAT in 1993-4. Yeah they suck but can't get into law school without em. Take tons of practice tests, and do them in a realistic environment. I never studied at home; I went to the library to take the tests (and timed myself). The guy coughing in the booth next to you? There could be one of him at the test too. Train as you fight, fight as you train and all that. Best of luck. |
The format may have changed but I was good at "gaming" those old standardized test. My buddy found a book "How to beat the SAT" by a guy who designed games. He took the test, sometimes not even reading the questions, to figure out the gamesmanship of taking the tests. basically back then the answers were predominately b or d, of the rest a and e were more likely than c. Also they rarely had the same letter as an answer more than three times in a row. There was more, like number answers were usually clustered in the middle of the numbers given as possible answers, but if you had an inkling as to the answer and had gotten the questions before and after it right you had a real good shot at guessing the right answer. I scored in the top 5% or better on the PSAT, SAT, ACT (so hung over I could barely stand-I passed out the night before at about 4 in the afternoon and only woke up at 6 am that morning) and on the LSAT. It was ridiculous the offers of colleges and grad schools I got because I beat those tests. Anyway I also took the GMAT (is the business school one?). I did not do as well on the math one (this was after 3 years of law school with no math) but I still cranked out a 90%+ on the verbal. I was attending SU law school, and doing just okay (but I had a lot of fun edit-I took no prep courses. I took a couple of practice exams for the SAT and I only fooled around with a couple of the lsat practice exams while drinking beer and watching TV. I had no real interest in law school but was dating a girl who was attending SU as an undergrad. Those tests are a joke. |

Mr_Psmith I color coded my responses to the conditions. What did I miss? Exactly one major is assigned to each bench. Frank and Joan are assigned to consecutively numbered benches, with frank assigned the lowest-numbered bench. Frank is assigned to the same bench as victor. Gwen is not assigned to the same bench as Wanda. 1. Which one of the following could be the assignment of students to benches? (C) 1:Henry, Wanda 2:Gwen, Xavier 3:Frank, Victor 4: Joan, Yvette |
I'm pretty sure that the subset of that condition means lowest of the two consecutive benches. So that Frank come before Joan on the list of assignments. Not the lowest of possible numbers. So if they are on benches 1 & 2, Frank gets bench one. Benches 2 & 3, Frank gets bench 2. Etc.. |
You got it right. I did it in my head without paying close attention to the "...with frank assigned theh lowest-numbered bench" MODIFYING the previous statement rather than standing on its own, as I assumed. Mea culpa. |
NP. I get worked up more than I should over problems. I hate missing something. Hell I keep a bottle of white out with me in case I mess up a SUDOKU so I can redo it correctly. ETA: To this day I haven't left one done incorrectly. |
Really! I thought the USMLEs were not bad at all. Medicine made more sense to me then pure physics and half the BS questions they asked. I guess thats why I went into surgery. |
I do a fair amount of bankruptcies, filings are returning to normal |
Nothing wrong with getting in with the trustee's office. I think I'd get bored only doing bankruptcies but the C13 trustee here has a good gig. |
Um what's with trying to sound like a prostitute from Platoon? Personal injury is fat cash. Unfortunately around here the TV lawyers have pretty much kicked the rest of us out of the business. Not sure why as those ads have beena round for years. I got called just last week by a national company trying to talk me into hooking up with them to do TV ambulance chasing. |
