Im watching the movie Alien Nation: Dark Horizon, and I vaguely remember the TV series back in the day, though I didnt reallyh watch it. My question is-

Was that series just a metaphor for illegal aliens from South of the border?

Seems like its full of all kinds of PC messages including those right wing racists who hate the 'slags'

I never thought so.  The aliens weren't here illegally.  No law against coming here from another planet, as far as I know.  I think it was just a message about racism in general.

I loved the movie with James Caan and Mandy Patinkin, but I never could get into the show because it had different actors playng those roles, so it just seemed wrong.

I like the movie. Never watched the tv series.

Gotta love the .454 casull duty weapon

I always thought it addressed racism and stereotypes more than illegal aliens  YMMV
