I've been thinking about door security quite a bit lately. Violent home invasions are on the rise. Left me thinking about how to secure my bedroom door. There is no access to the room other then through the door. I suppose you could put a deadbolt on the door and replace the door with a solid core door, but this house will be put up for sale in a few years and I don't want to make any sweeping changes. Anyone think a few bags of cat litter would be sufficient to slow down someone trying to break in long enough to let me wake up? How do you keep your bedroom secure?

My bedroom does not even have a door.

I keep weapons near my bed and hope for the best.

We have a whole house alarm and set it to away when we are in the bedroom.

That means the motion detectors will go off, we have wireless keyfobs to disarm if we need to leave the bedroom.

Couple of steel L hooks and a 2x4 works wonders.  Quick and easy to undo or set from the inside, and when pairs with a solid door, you are pretty darn secure.

A paint drawing of something I was thinking of for the front door of the house.

Thought of that but you're going to kill the drywall and you have to attach it to the studs. Also it will have to be far enough from the door to clear the door frame molding. so they will get the door at least 3-4 inches open before it hits the 2x4. The cat littler can be placed directly against the door so there will be no momentum built up by the doors motion...

You need to swing by your local Radio Shack.

They have (or at least mine does) aq pretty good selection of wireless security devices.

I've got one of their portable motion/movement sensitive units that I take with me when I have to travel for work. Just turn it on, set it in front of my hotel room door and go to sleep.

If the door opens, the motion sensor sets it off.

Easy easy. This critter is LOUD to boot.

It's also got a nifty little movement sensor on it. Heavy footsteps and/or m oving the device will also set it off. Makes deactivating it in the morning  a little tricky, but it's well worth the extra security.

Yes but there may be an attack in which the BG doesn't care if an alarm goes off and you wake up.

I think the OP was interested in solutions that actually physically prevent (or at least seriously delay) any forced entry into the home.

What are you going to do with that? Set it above the door?

Put an audible alarm on your door and a piece of plywood full of nails in front of it, just outside the range of the door swing.

Rog...I was, of course, just refering to an "early warning system", if you will.

That said I've got a similiar setup to the picture posted above in my home.

You know I meant to place it inside the door as a brace to keep the door from being kicked in and arrest the motion of the door to slow down entry.
