I'm sure this has been beaten to death as much as the 9mm vs 45ACP discussions. Ok maybe not as bad anyways I'm going to drop Progressive like a bad habbit. I'm not paying money to huge supports of the ACLU or anyone who is anti-2A.

I'm thinking about All State or Nationwide. Do they support and fund the enemy?
Are there any other companies worth checking out? USAA is not a option for me.

What say the hive mind?

P.S gun and renters insurance would be a nice thing the bundle with my car insurance too.

I know that the State Farm bashers are ready to line up, but they stood behind me to the tune of 7 figures when my son was involved in a (very) serious accident.  They were there for me from the minute that I reported the accident to the settlement a year and a half later.

Thankfully, my agent and I set up an umbrella policy several years earlier and everything was covered.

The lawyer that they provided handled the everything and did her best to keep me from worrying (try that when you are at risk of losing everything that you have worked a lifetime to establish).

They have had all of my insurance for 20 years and I never saw any reason to shop around nor will I.

I have State Farm for my car and renters insurance and have for over 8 years.  I have been 99% satisified with them and have no issues.  I assume that sooner or later I will be switching everything to Allstate though seeing that I work for them and I get a discount

Consider contacting an independent agent who represents several companies (Hartford, Travelers, Fireman's Fund, etc.). They can give you multiple options and the better ones give darn good coverage advice too. Nothing wrong with the direct writers like Allstate and State Farm except that they sell only one product....theirs.

I can't find the data for your state since the VA Bureau of Ins website sucks, but from the Market Conduct survey the CA Dept of Ins performs, Wawanesa is pretty damn good when it comes to justified complaints made against them.

Wawanesa Mutual tends to rate higher than Wawanesa General, i'm guessing the general branch is slightly higher risk drivers with more "problems" to begin with that want to whine when they think they've paid for "full coverage" and what they think isnt the same as what reality is.

If you happen to qualify, USAA is the best insurance company on the planet.

How did you quantify that?  Because it is cheap govt subsidized ins.?  They have changed a lot from what they used to be, but there are better companies out there.

If I couldn't have USAA I would have State Farm, I know many many satisfied lifelong customers of theirs.  They pissed me off royally when they refused to even give me a quote when I was under 25 (to be fair, no other good companies would either), being single, male, under 25 and living in Vegas makes you all but uninsurable, even with a clean driving record.

It is not government subsidized anything.  It's the best private insurance company I have ever dealt with, and with the lowest rates and best coverage as an added bonus.  You must be thinking of SGLI or something.

I just did a rate quote thing on State Farms web site. The base cost is about the same for the same coverage with Progressive. I just hope they give me a discount for paying all up front like Progressive did.

I'll still need to wait till the end of the month. I had accident in Mid May 04. If I wait a few weeks I get to answer no to the question if I had any accidents in the past 3 years.

Bottom line... you need to shop every few years if you want to make sure you are getting a good deal.   The company that is cheapest one year may not be cheapest the next.  That said, price is not the only thing that matters.

I have State Farm and have had since 1978.  I've never had a problem with them, with the exception of them Dropping my Windstorm coverage after Hurricane Andrew. In all fairness, they dropped most everyone East of US1 in Dade County.  BUT - they did pay us a decent amount on our House after Andrew, and took care of us after Katrina (flood).

There has been a couple of times over the years where I've called other companies to get quotes on Auto, and no one has been able to beat them.

This is a little late, but I ran across this thread in a search.  I got a very good quote from Esurance, so I did a little checking on them.  Found almost solid negative reviews.  Rates increased for no or false reasons, failure to pay claims, never returning calls, etc.  I would avoid them.
