This pass week my wife and I have been walking / hiking for 4 or 5 miles a day to get some needed exercise.  Yesterday I get the bright idea to hike a local forest preserve. So we and our 2 dogs have an enjoyable 6.5 mile hike walking on a crushed rock path around a prairie field. We never wandered off into the weeds we stayed on the path or in grass. All is well until we go to bed last night, and then all hell breaks lose. Ticks are all over us we checked the dogs and they are all over them. So we have been up about every hour all night long removing ticks. I never had seen ticks this bad before so far we have found 45 ticks. We washed the dogs 3 times with tick shampoo and put frontline on them. We are washing and vacuuming everything.  Is there anything else we should be doing? I am debating about setting off a couple of them whole house bug bombs. Any suggestions are welcome. I have never seen or heard about ticks this bad, if someone told me this story I probably wouldn’t have believed it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. When I was growing up we all got ticks on us and the dogs all the time. Nothing bad ever happened because of it.

Well... I wouldn't waste a lot of time worrying, but you do need to pay attention.  Rocky Mountain Spotted fever is some bad juju.  My BIL had it and it will definitely kick your ass.

They can carry Lyme disease too.

Keep your dogs and other pets up to date on their frontline and they will be fine. It repels ticks and kills them if they do bite.  As for yourself just check your self very well, use a handheld mirror to look "everywhere" or you and your wife can play a sexy game of "find the parasite". Depends how long you've been married whether that is fun game or not

I find that if you walk in direct sunlight, you will reduce the number of ticks that get on you to almost nothing.

If you use a vacuum with a bag in it throw it out when you are done. The vacuum won't kill them and they might be able to get out.

I use a collar trade name "Preventix" on my dogs

We just found 2 more. Ticks SUCK bigtime! I live in FREAKIN illinois and I have never seen ticks like this. I spent time in the BWCA and expect ticks there, but not here. I think they have been banned, I better check.

I get ticks every time I go to the range or go mushroom hunting. It is just a part of the outdoors. I check myself for them before going in the house though. What I hate are those little bastards that are hard to see.
