Last month I sold a DCI FAL upper receiver on GB. All went well. The guy sent his payment and a copy of his dealer's FFL, I sent the reciever. Done deal. Today I received an email from the buyer saying his dealer needs a copy of my driver's license, and the serial number on the receiver before he'll complete transfer! WTF? I've sold plenty of guns over the web, and it's payment & FFL, that's it. The FFL logs the receiver into his book, logs it out to the buyer, simple as that. I think this guy's got his shit wrong. |

From a federal law perspective, the FFL doesn't legally NEED a copy of your driver's license, but some prefer to have it fpr their records (in the acquisition/disposition log). That's also the reason why some FFLs only want firearms sent to them from other FFLs - because it makes the record-keeping more "complete" and comprehensive. Why would he ask for the serial number that was on the receiver? Doesn't he have it right there?

I suppose he wants me to write it on the the copy of my driver's license. Something along the lines of "I (insert your name here) sold FAL upper receiver, serial number 0000, to (insert another name here) on (this date)." |

I suppose you could always send or fax him a bill of sale/invoice, that states your name, address, etc and confirms that you are selling the upper. That way, you aren't really giving him any new (or more extensive) info, but are giving him sort of what he wants for his records - unless it's a state law that he must have your driver's license. Personally, it wouldn't bother me to send a copy of my driver's license. Or, you could tell him that you don't drive and don't have a license, because Al Gore told you that carbon emmisions make Mother Earth cry. |
Ummm, isn't the number ON the receiver you sent? I completely understand him wanting a copy of your DL, but most FFLs prefer to take the number right off the item. |
