I ran across a mak 90 at a pawn shop this weekend and I dont know a lot about Ak's.  It was an underfolder, original, i think it was a type 80?  The price was $1000 and I passed it up.  Was that a mistake?  Whats the value of an original underfolder mak 90?   Thanks

Well, to start-out, I'm going to ASSUME you saw one of three things.

1) (Most likely), one of the '56S-1 guns that, though originally shipped from China as an under-folder got caught in customs as the ban was being inacted and subsequently turned into a "MAK" to get it into the country.  (These are neat guns and with the right number of parts you can take them back to under-folders without breaking any laws).  Worth between $350-$500 depending on what part of the country you're in and condition.

2) Would be an actuall '56S-1 though, it wouldn't say "MAK-90" on it, it's a pre-ban under-folder.  You see them anywhere from $800-$1,000 on gun boards.

3) Would be a standard MAK-90 that someone has converted to an under-folder (With or with-out the correct parts).  Anywhere from $375-$450 (To ME at least).

There's one more option that "Might" be in there too (?)  If you read the "Type-80" part wrong and it actually was stamped "Type-81" the $1,000 would've been a smoking deal.  Just a few of the type-81's made it in (They were sorta Chinese "Product-Improved" AK's) and, though I've never seen one offered for sale they ARE in the country and worth quite a bit.

I'm pretty sure it was the type-81.  The guy said that very few came into the U.S. and that he didn't expect it to last very long at that price.  I guess i shoulda picked it up, but i can't really afford it right now anyway
