I have some Luksusowa in the freezer, I need some suggestions for what to make with it.

How does it taste in comparison to a regular old vodka like Smirnoff?  Is the difference significant?

Maybe I'll drink it straight if it tastes any different.

Tastes better imho, what we usually do with cheap vodka is run it though a pur water purifying pitcher and it cleans up nicely. I say a screwdriver or vodka in red bull is my favorite.

rumor has it that potato vodkas are "cleaner" than vodka from other sources, containing less methanol, higher alcohols, and fusel oils.  Whether that's true or not, I don't know.  You can give us a range report with your opinion.

+1 on the carbon filter. $15 for a large Sears branded one. Turns $10 vodka into $30 vodka instantly.

you will notice the difference.

In regards to filtering cheap vodka through a Brita filter, I did it 7 times with Crown Russe and it still tasted like absolute shit. I don't buy into the filter-shitty-vodka-and-get-gold myth.

I drink Chopin straight when I need something stronger than wine.  The best way I can describe it is "oily".  It is thicker than grain vodkas, and much less medicine-like.

Brita aint betta. Its crap. Get a LARGE carbon filter at Sears. It works. Or your taste buds are broken.

+1 regarding Chopin. Definitely has an "oily" viscosity to it.

Good stuff, and makes a tasty Martini.

Guys, this isn't cheap vodka. I bought it on purpose because I wanted to try a potato vodka.

I still haven't tried it, I need to get off my lazy ass and go upstairs and get it.

Those are considered to be the 'spirits' of the vodka. Less spirits results in a smoother drink without the bite.  Be sure to mix it or have a strong chaser on hand if you're gonna do shots

Prost!

Did you pay attention to the episode?

The filtering did improve the flavor progressively as per their results.

The only caveat was it still didn't taste as good as the big $$$ 'control' vodka.

Potato vodka is "cleaner" because there is nothing in the mash but the potato starch and a bit of skin.

A grain mash will include not only the starch/sugars of the grain, but the rest of the grain and all of those things that won't be fermented/distilled which will add other qualities to the spirit. The starch to non-starch ratio is much higher in potatos.
