I have a MS 361 and just noticed that Sthil is now selling a model that has the QCA built in.  It looks like its possible to add it, but I'm not sure of the price.  Does anyone have this on an existing saw and/or added one later?  In concept I like the idea of being able to easily keep the proper tension on the chain.  But I don't want to buy a gimmick.

How say you?

It's a gimmick--takes seconds to tension the chain with a scrench.

If you cut enough that your chain needs to be tensioned, probably time to take a break anyway.

MS 361 is a great saw, BTW.......have one myself and love it.

Ask here

But I agree with Feral it's pretty painless on my 346XP.

I ran saws for two years in the tree trimming business.  I got smart and made a carreer change.  My Stihl here at the house has the QCA.  I like it.  It's not a deal breaker but it's easy and works good.

if you're talking about the thumb knob, wheel adjuster, my saw has it...think it is an ms270 or something like that.  anyway, i was worried about it when i bought the saw, because it is just plastic parts....didn't want to drop $400 on a saw and have them strip.  it was definately a durability worry.

i've had the saw for about 3 years, and have had zero problems with it.  i've completely worn out 3 chains, and had no problems with the tension adjuster.

It's a nice option, esp. when you are doing a lot of work and don't want to walk back and get your bar wrench. They don't have any issues with wear or breakage. The wearable parts are metal. Unfortunately at the moment it's not available as an add on accessory for that model saw. You'd have to buy it part by part and it would be cost prohibative. The only QCA accessroy available as an add on fits the MS 170 thru MS250 models only.

THanks for the comments.  Are you in the sales or service buisness for Stihl?  Do you know if they plan to create an add-on option or is it just when you buy the saw?

thanks
