I'm at the range shooting my Romanian Trainer .22LR, Just leisurely plinking since it's a fairly nice day despite light drizzle. So eventually a guy i used to work with shows up and is shooitng................................ Then it happens, Elmer F. Fudd shows up with a .17HMR, we're thinking no problem. Then he sees me picking up some .223 brass to reload that another shooter had left within the past couple days, a couple hundred rounds worth of brass casings free for the reloading. So the "Fudd" asks "Whay are you picking all those up?" I replied "To reload for my AR-15's" So i get them gathered up while the other guy is hanging targets and sit down back at my bench with my .22. He explians he got the .17HMR to use for Turkey hunting, I said "Well make them head shots!" He replies "Why? Won't this kill a turkey?" I reply "Yes but those bullets especially the ballistic tips loadings have a habit of exploding in the animal, you don't want to swallow razor sharp copper shards do you?" He says, "Oh! i guess not!" So he then sees my former co Worker pull out a Glock 22 and fire it, so trying to impress us he says "I have a Hi Point .45, I really like it!" Me and the other guy are trying to stifle a laugh at the mere mention of "Hi Point" Pistols. This guy looks at the glock mags and asks "Why are there two rows of bullets in there?" We answer "it's a double column magazine!" he says "Oh!" But the "crowner" was when i went to leave he saked "Don't you reload those casings?" pointing to my .22LR cases! I reply "Naw too damn aggravating to reload those!" trying to keep from laughing, I thought my former co worker was gogin to shit himself!

Quite frankly, but he seemed like an open-minded guy who was at least willing to learn. Try not to laugh too hard, just because he doesn't have your awesome and vast repository of gun knowledge. When I think of "Fudds" I think of the assholes who feel obliged to tell me that my AR is pointless and stupid, and nobody should be allowed to own them - and then brags about how accurate their scoped rifle is (only to shoot an 8-inch group at 100 yards with the rifle supported on sandbags). |
| all good teachable moments to bring others to our shooting world. don't ridicule them, just give them good information and they will do the same for ohers. having a range where newbies are ridiculed will be a range with no new people and eventually fade away. support ourselves by supporting others. any gun that can shoot has its merits, even hi points. the point is, is that he likes it, and you like glocks. tell him why instead of just laughing at him. you could even go further and tell why others don't like the gun you like. |
|
Geez, Guys we didn't treat him bad, we answered his questions i gave him safety advice so he would bleed from the pooper after his turkey was eaten, we even let him try the .367 magnum Marlin Cowboy Action my friend had and his glock 22. We even gave him advice on getting a better handgun and how to choose one. But it was just all we could do not laugh about the "Aren't you going to reload those?" concerning my 22LR casings. It wasn't like we ignored questions or were trying to be rude to him. |
|
You were not very nice to the guy You should have tought him what you know instead of picking on him for what he did not know. Maybe you can redeem yourself by offering to take him shooting and letting him bust a few mags out of youru AR. A Fudd is a person who knows about guns, hunting and the outdoors; but does not want to learn anymore than what there daddy or there grand pappi tought them. they are not open to new and different things and generaly do not ask questions. Obviously this guy was courious and wanted to learn. Shame shame shame ETA: maybe not everyone can afford $1000 rifles and $400 pistols? But I bet if he had fun, he might think about getting one. |
| It sounds like he was interested in what what you were doing/shooting. If he wasn't interested, he wouldn't have asked you. You should have let him shoot your AR-15 or the Glock, I'm sure he has never had an opportunity to. I wouldn't have laughed or made any jokes about what he had. That's just what he prefers. That's why there are thousands of different kinds of guns, to each his own. Just my .02. |
|
We were not rude or Sarcastic with him, I did not have my AR, i was plinking with a .22!! We answered his questions and gave him advice. I did not laugh at him, i was able to keep it inside, the other guy tried as hard as he could not to laugh at the reload those question. And yes we explained .22LR is not reloadable into a complete round. Geez, we even told the guy when we would be shooting again if he wanted to learn some more about diffrent guns, we even discussed Black Powder shooting with him when a third guy showed up. I just figured you guys would get alaugh about the Reload .22LR question. Sorry for living! |
|
READ MY SECOND POST!! WE WERE NOT MEAN TO HIM!! AND WE DID LET HIM SHOOT THE GLOCK AND MARLIN!!! WE ANSWERED HIS QUESTIONS NON SARCASTICALLY!! WE TOLD HIM WHEN WE WOULD BE THERE AGAIN AND INVITED HIM TO COME JOIN US! The post was just to give some humor about the Aren't you gogin to reload those?" about the .22LR |

Sorry, but from what you wrote, I think you blew it. Guy just sounds new/inexperienced. You had a chance to educate someone that seemed to be simply unknowledgable but open and you chose the wrong path. I'm not ragging on you. It's easy to get desensitized and think that everyone out there has the knowledge and experience of many here. They don't. Just by participating on this site you're in probably the top 5% of firearms owners. Many people that own guns don't know shit about them. They get all their information from gunshop commandos, gunshow dealers and magazines written by people that depend on advertising dollars for their paycheck. Unless the guy is a total jerk, a true stereotypical Fudd, always try to pass along your knowledge and correct any obvious bullshit. If you don't feel like doing that, at least don't ridicule someone that is innocently unknowledgable about firearms. |
+1 Lighten up & don't burn a bridge before it's even built. Maturity & "attitude" don't mix. |
So, you guys are shooting a Glock and a 22 .. you sure showed that Fudd up... |
|
I used to have a Hi-point carbine, and a few of my friends still do (we actulay even had fun shooting them) .... would that make me a "former fudd"? and would it make my friends "AK-47 owning fudds"? ETA; neither if them have an AR so they are AK owners...with highpoints Or is it only the pistols which cause laughing at their mere mention? |
|
No, actually i've heard the Carbines do a decent job and don't jam every third or 4th round like a Hi Point pistol does. As for the rest of you, no i did not have my High end stuff out there If you read carefully it was raining and i was not draggin all 20 guns i own out there to shoot or let others try to see if they like them. I was plinking so all took was 1 of my .22's. The Marlin Lever and the Glock belonged to the third guy my former co worker. And no "AK's" do not make you less than acceptable, The second Semi i ever owned was Polytech AKM. You guys are definatly reading too much into this. Considering he was using a rimfire you would think he would know they aren't reloadable. |
Exactly |
We can't all be geniuses like you. Sorry. |
They are reloadable, but it is too much of a PITA to do so. I pick up all my brass, reloadable or not and even the stuff I don't shoot. Everything goes into a big bucket at home. With the way brass prices are going it's worth the effort. |
Damn, a .367? A marlin caliber not in my stable. A real Fudd would have just given you the stink eye and not have opened up to you. Not knocking it, but you guys missed a good oppertunity to help someone out with a bit of knowledge. Maybe even a shooting buddy down the road. So anyway, where did you get the .367? By the way, I probably would have laughed at the Glock. |
You beat me to it, I always wanted to say, This thread didn't exactly end up the way you planned, did it? Oh well maybe next time. |
+1... you should have been nicer and more helpful in explaining things... This was obviously a new shooter who probably would have relished someone with more experience giving them a few tips. While I dont have a highpoint and never have... and it would never be my recommendation to someone to purchase, I would never make fun of them for it. You never know what someones financial situation is and maybe, just maybe they like shooting as much as you do... but do not have the income (or possible just the knowledge) to provide for buying a superior pistol. PS I am not shitting on you, Just sayin' next time be friendly... let him shoot your .22 or your glock... teach him a few things and make him feel that he too is a part of the wonderful brotherhood that hunters, shooters and gunowners in general share. |
trying to keep from laughing, I thought my former co worker was gogin to shit himself!
