Benefit for Vet Killed in Car Crash

ROCHESTER, MN -- Friends of a well-known veterinarian who died in a car accident last weekend are hosting a benefit in his honor.

They're trying to help keep his clinic up and running.

The doctor's son and daughter-in-law work at his clinic and they say they're trying to keep the Rochester business in the family.

Dr. John Myhrom died last weekend when he lost control of his truck and slammed into a utility pole.

The well-known veterinarian and father of three was beloved by both his patients and their owners.

Cat Thisius, who's helping put the event on, says, "Dr. Myhrom always went out of his way to make animals better. He always went the extra mile to do what he could."

Myhrom's son and daughter-in-law help run the show at Animal Health Care Clinic.

Myhrom's son Darrin Amy says, "I found out how Doc has affected other peoples' lives. Pets, he's always loved his pets."

Friends and family knew him as Doc, and they tell us being a veterinarian was just one of his many passions.

Doc and his son have put on the Toys for Tots car show for the last five years.

Amy says, "He taught me a lot. It's really meant a lot to me. It's more than just the vet clinic. He'd take me out. He got me into old cars."

To show their appreciation for the man who always lent a helping hand, friends are putting on the Dr. John Myhrom Memorial Benefit to help pay for operating costs to help keep the clinic doors open.

There will be pet photography, nail trims and a silent auction.

"Just to have the community come together and celebrate Dr. Myhrom's life," says Thisius, "Bringing his patients together in a happy place. Have lasting memories and alternately to raise enough money to help the veterinarian clinic stay on it's feet."

Amy says, "Obviously Dr. Myhrom was a huge part of the clinic. He was the backbone, and so we do need to get something to get us on our way."

The Dr. John Myhrom Memorial benefit is scheduled April 14th and 15th.

Organizers are still looking for volunteers and a place to host the benefit so if you are interested you can call Cat Thisius at 261-3730 or Lisa Pearse at 288-5337.

The website, www.catsmc.net, will also explain all the details.

The clinic is open right now on a limited basis.

Next week the family plans to bring in a temporary veterinarian in until they can find a permanent one.
