I've recently signed up for a defensive firearms class here in Alabama. I'm planning on taking the defensive handgun course first and returning for defensive carbine. Although I've been shooting all my life, I've never enrolled in anything like this before. I think there will be some good lessons learned and it will be a lot of fun. Anybody had any experience with taking classes like this? |

I've benefited significantly from the classes I've taken and will take more in the future as my work and school schedules allow. (edited to make the links hot) |
These tactical classes are usually great, all the ones i have taken required me to be in pretty decent shape and have some sort of "training" on the weapons already. If its your first tactical class you will have alot of fun and learn a hell of a lot also, most likely you will be running through scenarios or some sort of drill so be prepared, it wont be your typical day at the range.

Who is teaching it? Classes range from great to poor depending on who is teaching it. |

If it's a good school it will be money well spent. I also shot all my life. Now after lots of classes ranging from long range rifle to carbine to close encounters handgun / knife I have a pretty good base for more. After roughly 150 to 200 hrs of professional range time it has made a huge difference. I would rather spend money on training than guns. I have almost all the guns I want besides a couple black powder pistols. Training and ammo, lots of ammo.,.,. My school is now offering Wilderness skills behind enemy lines. Basically you learn to live outside undetected for an indefinite amount of time. The instructors are beyond qualified and are very humble. Their attitude is safety first, and we are all students who all learn from each other. |
