You are a proponent of controlling guns and want help?

Is this an expository paper?

it is a research paper and i am against gun control. i am just needing to look at both sides and present them "equally" without my opinion clouding the picture (if possible). so i am just wanting some pro-gun arguements/facts and so forth.

Well, the biggest argument for gun ownership is contained in the second amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the federalist papers.

Then yes, that is an expository (versus persuasive) assignment.

Include the statistics of crime in Washington, DC and New York City (where guns are outlawed) compared to places like Savanah, Georgia in your crime analysis.  The rebuttal, then, would be heightened gun related crimes in other citys of similiar demographics.

Personally, I would include a frivolous lawsuit annotation of suits against manufacturers, and then compare safety innovations brought about by such judgments.  Use it as a sign post, or just add it as a complete tangent.

Don't forget your hard numbers:  How many legal gun owners the US has, the average transfer rate, crimes committed by legally and illegally possessed firearms, and the revenue for government programs from gun sales and spent because of gun sales.

Good luck!  If I can be of any help, just give me a shout!  I happen to tutor Comp II.

Let me tell you a little secret.  If this is a college paper, and the subject is not assigned, then you would be better-off writing about a different subject.  English instructors get so many papers on this subject that it, frankly, bores them to tears---regardless of how well written.  This applies to both sides of the argument.  Abortion and all other mainstream topics, likewise, are done-to-death (to use a cliché).

To get a better grade, I would suggest finding an unusual topic to reseach and write about.

Dave.

Really?  That's an interesting thing to know. I wouldn't have thought this would come up that much in papers.

Kinda cool it's that alive I guess

Yep.

Any topic that is hotly debated during elections is usually a bore to read, especially from college kids who couldn't compose a contract for their little brothers to clean their rooms once a week.
