My first airsoft purchase was a Tokyo Marui 92FS. I was satisfied except for the fact that RedWolf imports their HFC 194a gas from Japan, and it took 3 months for 1 can to arrive.

I need to find an online store within the U.S that already pre-imports foreign airsoft products and rifles.

Second, I'm looking to make some more airsoft purchases too. I would appreciate it if any ARFCOMMERS can point me to online or brick-mortar stores that sell airsofting equipment (e.g clothing, protection).

Third, I'm looking to buy another airsoft rifle or two. I'm debating between AEG's and GBB's and can't reach a decision. I like the blowback features of the GBB's and the AEG's (from youtube videos) seem to just hum if you shoot them. I saw an MP5K and an M1 Garand that were GBB's on RedWolf but I don't want to wait too long. Are AEG's more powerful than GBB's?

Last, I was wondering if there are 6mm and 8mm paintballs you can load airsoft guns with, so I can go paintballing with my friends.

Thanks!

Where's that pic...?

Oh, and it wasn't worth it to buy airsoft guns anywhere stateside back when I was into it (~4-5 years ago, before everything went to shit with all the punk kids and posers). And standard gas is 134a - same refrigerant used in some air conditioners. Get a can of compressed air used for computers & stuff, cannibalize the top adapter nozzle, and use that in combination with a refill kit to fill your gas can with standard 134a. Just make sure to oil the seals in the gun, since there's not going to be any lubricant in the gas anymore.

Don't buy from foreign sites - great way to get your CC info stolen.  Also, you'd have to deal with Customs BS, insane shipping fees and long delays (like you've already dealt with).

Most GBB and AEG guns are in the same power range - around 280 fps with a .2g BB.  AEG's are more reliable, but more sensitive to moisture (they are electric after all).  IMHO, you'd want an AEG.

Most of my guns are spring guns, and I'm very happy with them.  Much cheaper than an electric, but just as powerful (in the case of long guns, most pistols run at about 220 fps).

Spring guns are the most reliable of all airsoft guns.  I typically use mine for plinking at soda cans and stuff like that - the rate of fire isn't much of a concern to me.  Also, you can re-chamber a spring gun pretty fast with some practice - just like how some guys are fast as all hell with a bolt-action rifle.

GBB's are insensitive to moisture, but they can be prone to short-stroking (not enough gas pressure to re-cock the mechanism), particularly in cold weather.  Some GBB's are more powerful than the average 280 fps.

Probably the top two American internet vendors (IMHO) are ShortyUSA and AirsoftAtlanta.  They're American, pretty quick on the shipping, and they won't screw you.

AVOID airsoft paintballs at all costs - they can ruin your gun !!!  They are horribly prone to jamming and breakage within the gun.  Also, they are not accurate due to inconsistent paint fill.

If you fire paintballs out of an airsoft gun and the paintballs break, you'll have to get that gun apart somehow and clean it out real good - and you may or may not be able to do that.  Also, it'll void any warranty you might have.

Lastly, yes, this is ARFCOM - a firearms site...

A lot of people here dislike airsoft because of the attitude of some of the kids who play it, that whole "Look at me, I'm l33t !" thing combined with dressing up like .mil or LE - these people often come off as posers at best and LE/Military impersonators at worst.

Buying propellant gas from overseas is a waist of time and money.  Indeed, the domestic market for airsoft goodies is wide enough now that the prices savings after importation is negligable over buying domestic.

Your TM 92FS can handle HFC22 out of the box anyway.  If you want to keep using the lower power gas then save some money and buy bulk packs of 'PC Duster Gas' which is just the compressed air they sell for cleaning out keyboards and cleaning camera lenses.  It's non-lubricated so you'll want to buy a silicone lubricant to keep your magazines seals in shape.

When I was into airsoft I sent a LOT of business to Airsoft Extreme (I linked directly to their GBB propellant page) because I played with the owner and had been happy with several purchases and upgrades through them.  The higher pressure HFC22 is the 'Green Gas' on that page.  That's exact product is what I used in my TM 92FS for a couple of years before I got out of airsoft.  Out of 5 magazines I blew the seal on only one of them (I constantly kept them atleast slightly charged, it's the recommended method whether you use HFC134a or HFC22) and even then the seal was easy to replace (granted I had purchased a tool to disassemble the mag and extra seals 'just in case' when I bought the pistol).

Buy an AEG for your next purchase.  They are far and beyond the most efficient and reliable way to go.  Yes, they do sound like sewing machines.  AEGs  can be more powerful than GBBs or less powerful.  It all depends on what's going on with the arm.  Most AEG rifles will out of the box shoot at about 280fps or thereabouts.  The GBB will likely do a bit better.  Inexpensive upgrades can easily get an AEG up to 320-350fps (about as far as you'll want to upgrade if you're shooting at other people).

Yes, there are 6mm paintballs.  No, you do NOT want to use them in anything but a single shot, spring cocking airsoft gun.  They will break in a self loading airsoft gun, gunking up the insides.  Cleaning out the internals of an AEG due to split paintballs is a much bigger problem than cleaning a paintball gun.

If you want to play paintball with a realstic looking arm then look into a RAP 4.  I have never personally owned one and cannot tell you how well they do.  The company started growing about four years ago when I got out of airsoft and they are still around, so perhaps that says something.

EDIT: The above recommended ShortyUSA and Airsoft Atlanta would be trustworthy domestic dealers as well.

I read that 6mm paintball bb's will only ruin Automatic airsoft guns, not semi-auto pistols or spring rifles. Is that true? Can anyone confirm?

They won't ruin Gas Blowback pistols but the action will likely slice the small paintballs once in a while, thus requiring a cleaning before you can shoot again.  GBB pistols are or a much simpler design. Indeed, the pistol itself is relatively similar to a real semi-auto pistol to field strip and clean.  Feel comfortable trying out the paintballs in your 92FS, but don't expect it to perform very well.

Or, more likely, it's friction over time causing combustion.

One point is made abundantly clear anytime an airsoft thread crops up in GD.  Codename46, it's normally a good idea to post airsoft threads in the 'Wargaming' forum under the General section.  You'll get less traffic but you'll get fewer smart alec remarks.

And I see you did crosspost over in Wargaming.  Good man.
