I am looking at getting a portable GPS system for our family vacation. I know nothing about them, and do not know which is better to get, a Garmin or a Magellen? I would like a color display and voice directions, dn't really need it to pay MP3's and show pictures. Also looking to spend under $400. |
Magellan RoadMate 2000![]() You can get them for under $300.00. Great portable Car GPS. |

I've had a Garmin Streetpilot C330 for almost two years, and absolutely love it. Comes pre-loaded with road maps for all of North America, acquires satalites (ok, so I can't spell) quickly, gives solid directions with plenty of warning about upcoming turns and such. I've used it in multiple states, everywhere from downtown Minneapolis to some really back country roads and never had a problem with the mapping. My brother has a tom-tom. After comparing the two side by side for a while, we both went in together and bought the Garmin for our mother's car. The streetpilot was easier to enter destinations in, had a better database for looking up stuff by catagory (shows all the resteraunts in the area for instance, or you can enter a resteraunt name and it'll display the locations) and picked up satalites much faster. Best Buy is pretty easygoing about price matching. You can find the best deal online, print it out and take it in to your local store. |
