A friend of the wife's related that her daughter was home alone with her husband and kid yesterday afternoon getting ready to go to Las Vegas when they heard someone pounding at the front door. Her husband (a teacher and reserve sheriff) went upstairs and got his gun and got to engage the guy when he came back and busted the door down. From the bits and pieces related the guy was shot and captured. No news story to link. Guess they didn't make it to Vegas as they spent the day in police interviews. Happened in Corona, CA. Not sure if it was just robbery or if the perp knew it was a LEO residence... A normal day and she would have been home with kid and dad would have still been teaching at school. |

Eastvale homeowner shoots intruder Download story podcast 10:00 PM PST on Friday, February 23, 2007 By SARAH GORDON The Press-Enterprise A homeowner in Eastvale shot someone who he said was breaking into his home Monday morning, hitting the intruder in the foot, Riverside County sheriff's officials said. About 45 minutes after the home invasion, a 17-year-old from Moreno Valley matching the suspect's description checked into Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley with a bullet wound, sheriff's Investigator Gerald Franchville said. The homeowner identified the teen and sheriff's deputies arrested him, Franchville said. Investigators are still uncertain whether others accompanied the suspect, whom they did not name. Sheriff's dispatchers first received a call at 11:36 a.m. The caller said he and his wife were at home in the 1700 block of Riverboat Drive when someone kicked down the door and entered the house. The caller said he had fired a gun at the intruder, who fled the scene, Franchville said. Deputy Don Fortney said the homeowner was a San Bernardino reserve sheriff's deputy. His name was not released. The bullets hit at least one other house, according to neighbors, but no bystanders were hurt, deputies at the scene said. Investigators are still exploring whether any charges should be filed against the homeowner, Franchville said. Neighbor Patti Ramos said she was putting her young son down for a nap when she heard at least 10 shots. When they arrived, sheriff's deputies blocked streets and searched the neighborhood with the help of canine units and a helicopter. The helicopter broadcast an order that residents return to their houses and lock their doors, neighbors said. Eastvale developed relatively recently, and several residents said they worried the incident was an example of the kind of crime that comes with growth. "The more people out here, the more crime that comes in," said resident Brian Carlstrom, who recalled a Riverboat Road that had only 17 houses when he arrived in 2002. The street now has dozens of homes. |

What a damn shame...that he wasn't killed. The prospect of someone getting into your home with your wife & child left alone is terrifying. I know that it's just a good reason to get her proficient in firearms but she's been fighting it every step of the way. My ole lady simply doesn't want to shoot. |
