After the OL/Zumbo blog blowup,I thought about an article I read a few months ago,in a smaller,but IMHO,better monthly periodical: FUR-FISH-GAME. (founded by,drum roll please: AR Harding!!!) FFG covers most outdoor pursuits in a down to earth,lowbuck way.Stuff for the average Joe. Anyway the article I'm referring to was by Judd Cooney;writer,deer and turkey guide,predator caller,former Colorado Game Warden,US veteran,etc Anyway,as Mr Cooney obviously is more in tune with/aware of what is going on in the real world, he had noticed the increase of AR based sporting rifles in the last few years. He discussed his poor first impressions of the AR,mainly based on his first hand experience with the M16 platform in the 1960s,in the service of our country. He decided to give them another go.Wound up with a Varmint barrelled Bushmaster (Oh,the HORROR) and had incredibly positive things to say about that rifle in particular,and the AR in general.Matter of fact,he said he was going to retire his tried and true,"go to" bolt action varmint rig,in favor of the Bushmaster! What a refreshing difference to see a writer/public figure actually base his opinion oN facts and experience,rather than fear,ignorance, and predjudice! |
