This past week I have been having trouble sleeping.  In the past 3 days I think I have slept 3 -5 hours total.  I go to bed between 10 and 11 and just cant seem to fall asleep.

The weird thing is i actually didn't feel that tired today.  I have taken two Tylenol PM's and I still don't feel that tired.

Anybody have any ideas on how to fall asleep?...other than drinking myself to sleep I'm open to ideas.

When you're laying in bed, try this:

Your eyes will be closed. You can make yourself "see things" better this way, your mind's eye is more in tune with actual vision (no hippie). So, picture a face. Then picture it morphing into a different face. So on and so forth.

Eventually you'll fall asleep. Always worked for me.

That, or pot.

Every so often I have the same problem.  I'll tune my radio to just static, and turn it down very low to where I can barely hear it.  I'm out in minutes after that.

1. tylenol pm.  it will make you groggy in the morning, but it WILL put you down.  ETA:  i saw that you already took some.  two of them should make you go to sleep withing the hour.  if not, see suggestion #2.

2. try beating off.  people always think i'm just being stupid when i post that, but it helps if you haven't had any release in a  while.

3. stay away from anything with sugar or caffiene.  i've found the rumor of beer making you sleepy to be false.

I have been having trouble for 2+ years now. Seen a few docs. Alot of it depends on what you have done the past 8-12 hours. Don't eat within a few hours of laying down. When you take the tylenol PM, don't have MUCH food in your stomach. Have just a little to avoid getting sick. Turn a radio on low-helps drown out sudden loud noises. Kinda odd but I sleep the best with the dish washer going

It also disrupts your REM sleep so you won't be rested in the morning.

i used to leave my radio on at night and like that idea but i used the only radio i have in my room as my alarm clock.

Reading isn't a bad idea, come to think of it i have some D-day books i never finished reading.

So how many Tylenol PM's is too many?..lol

at cub foods i bought "melatonin" in their vitamins section. im 215 pounds, if i take two of these i usually get drowsey after a 1/2 hour and i go into a pretty deep sleep. i took three one time and slept great but... two should be it, tops.  its cheap too.

i'm not an expert by any means, nor did i stay in a holiday inn last night; but i don't think i would recommend taking more than the manufacturer's recommended dose with something like a sleep aid.

i think two pills is the maximum for an adult, right?  unless you're a very large individual, i don't think it would be a good idea to take more than two...

I have an absolute sure-fire method to try.

When you're laying in bed, tell yourself that if you don't fall soundly asleep in 30 minutes, you are a flaming butt-pirate, totally completely in love with the penis.

You will either go right to sleep, or find something new about yourself.

Donate blood in the evening.
Do jumping jacks next to your bed.

I find that about a half hour of listening to the gentle buzz of avionics and slight rocking sensation, sitting in an airline cockpit, do wonders for my ability to fall asleep. (g).

I went for two weeks on a minimum level of sleep 2 summers ago.  I would MAYBE get an hour a night, for two weeks, if I fell asleep at all.  Not surprisingly, the doc diagnosed me with insomnia.

First thing she tried was Ambien.  Put me out like a light, but if you take it and find you need to do something before you go to bed, you WILL be stoned, it's a heavy narcotic.  But it will put you to sleep, no matter what.  Laying in bed stoned, however, isn't too much fun after about 5 minutes.

Next she gave me a prescription for Trazodone.  10mg, a tiny dosage of a drug that used to be used for depression but is now only used as a sleep aid.  Worked like a dream.  I never felt stoned, went to sleep seemingly on my own, and never felt groggy.  Doc supposes some of my insomnia have to do with depression.

If this lasts more than a week, see a doc.  They WILL fix you up.

The Tylenol PM worked.  It took a bit longer to kick in, probably hour and half.  I got some good sleep but like said before I did feel groggy.  I just hope tonight I can get some good sleep.  However I have been asked to go to the bars with some wimminz and for a Friday night I'm thinking that takes precedence

I do this 'bout once or twice a month. Or more.

I'll get shit for this probably, but those cammomile(sp) or lemon teas. They don't have any caffeine and they help. Really.

I had some tea once made from Mugwort, an herb you can get at the health food store. Knocked me out for a few hours. Then I found out it was a natural sleep aid.
