| I have a mountain of business cards that I'd like to scan and store. Who's got a solution for me? |
|
At the Franklin Covey store in the mall they sell a business card scanner that can scan and store on a palm pilot or computer... works pretty cool. It also has OCR (optical character recognition) software so it can recognize wht parts of the card are names, phone numbers etc... I forgot how much they cost... - AG |
That's the idea. I have a full-sized scanner and want to OCR my business cards without buying a new scanner. |

My experience with business card scanning has been marginal at best. I have found that each card will require some amount of editing after the scan, due to the wide variety of formats of the information. I've had company names where the person's name should be, incomplete phone numbers, email addresses missed entirely, you name it. Nowadays, I get the clear binder pages with spaces for 10 cards per side. Every so often, I just scan the whole thing into a PDF. ETA: I suppose you could try to OCR the pages that I described. Worth a try, anyway. A pack of 50 business card pages is like $3.99 at OfficeMax/Staples/Whatever. |
