I am accepted into UW Milwaukee where I will go for a degree in engineering. I've finally decided that on top of that I am going to enlist in the Marine Corps Reserves as a 0351, 0311 or 0331 depending on what the closest infantry unit has open(the list is in order from most wanted on down). As luck would have it there is an infantry unit about 15-20 minutes from my house. Im going to do the split-option type deal(can't remember what the Marines call it). Tuesday im meeting with my recruiters boss(not the president..whoever his CO is wherever his office is) and we are going to discuss how best to talk with my parents about this. Since I was extremely close to enlisting in the National Guard last year at 17 and then again when I turned 18(only to put it off because my mom practically had a break down), then after that I stopped discussing it with my parents for so long they are now convinced that I decided to stay out of the military till at least after college, when I do talk to them there is going to be a shitstorm at my house on a biblical scale.. I, of course, will give ARFCOM a word for word rundown after for ARFCOMS comedic pleasure. btw I know you can't bring your own drugs to boot camp. Do the painkillers they give you have an anti-inflamitory in them? I've got a slightly fucked up knee but if I take even one anti-inflamitory it'll usually keep me going for a few days absolutely pain free no matter how much I work it. edit: and I heard if you are flatfooted you need to do the duckwalk for like 6 minutes straight at MEPS to prove it doesn't bother you. Is that true? |
