Went w/ my step-son today to a Future Soldier funcrtion in which they took us out to assemble/disassemble some firearms. We delt w/ the M9, m16, and an M249 SAW. Oh man that M249 was fun. Had a blast. Heck I even did some marching and attention stance practice w/ them.

Anyone think it a lil crazy to send the recruiters a thank you letter?

Oh they have had him since summer '06. He signed up in July for 31B MP. 5 years they got him. He got 71k for College and he's ready to go :) He ships out after High School on June 19th.

No problem there. I am step dad so I actually had no say in him going but am all for it

Sounds like they have figured out the proper way to add those extra 92,000 troops to our active duty forces over the next 5 years!

Say "Welcome to the MP Corps" to your son from me; I've been an MP since 1995 and served both as a garisson and Combat Support MP, plus I have a tour of duty in Iraq under my belt (soon to be deployed again); being an MP is a good job, specially when he decides to get out; plenty of oportunities in the law enforcement community for an MP; I an in the Reserves and work as a Corrections Officer with the FBOP.

Tell him to remember these words.

OF THE TROOPS AND FOR THE TROOPS.

HOOAH!
