Force Protection Vehicles

Have you guys/gals seen this? Ugly as fuck, but effective as hell. You won't see any pro athletes driving these, thank God. And I hope they never get all pussified like the Hummer did.

But apparently, this company has gotten it right. Over 2 million hours logged in combat ops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and ONLY 3 FATALITIES. Those are some pretty good numbers right there.

I say hats off to Force Protection Inc. Keep up the good work of saving our troop's lives.

Edited to ADD this pic....

I hear our troops love them.  Definatly a real good piece of gear.  IIRC, Katrina caused them quite a few problems in production.

Very cool, can I pick one up at the local dealer

Seriously speaking, how do they do off road?  That's kind of important in a combat zone.

I just saw a report on them and apparently they're very tough. They showed a video of a blast under it, and then had a camera view in the vehicle when another blast was detonated under it again. The vehicle then drove away with no damage to it's critical systems. I say it's about time our guys got something that they're safe in.

About that Hummer pic, that's precisely what I'd want my vehicle to look like after a head-on crash. If it didn't absorb the energy like that all the occupants would end up like applesauce after an accident like that.

I saw the Force Protection stuff.  I threw a few pics of them into my drawing references folder in case I ever need to draw a vehicle that looks like it could eat a round from a MBT and keep on truckin.

+1

Modern vehicles are designed with crush zones, mainly the cargo and engine compartments.  Helps cushion the impact.

Once they start becoming available to the public via DRMO I'll have to pick one up to add to our collection of military trucks.

They, ( the Cougar and the Buffalo) are extremely tough and very well built trucks and they both do their jobs very well.
I help build the Cougars and make some parts for the Buffalo's.
I've talked to a few guys that are currently using them and all I hear is send us more of them.

A friend of mine invested in these guys about a month ago and his stock has nearly doubled in that time.

I like the one slogan on their website... "DROP YOUR PURSE, IT'S NOT A HUMMER."

Ours took over 20 direct hits with zero injuries and only one vehicle destroyed. The suspension realy sucks I wish they would put airbags on them. I will try to put more pictures up later. This was from inside of ours on a vbied.infidel 4

RG-31's need to replace the hummer in all roles.

Every military vehicle needs to be small arms and mine proof (to a point).  This would give some measure to the idea of "self escorting"

Hell its worked for bombers (now we have fighter/attack a/c) I don't see why it can't work with ground log vehicles.

Vehicle type is always mission dependent halfway through my tour I gaveup my cougar 4 an M1114 because the people I supported mostly needed me at night when we were driving through the city as fast as we could with NOD's on you wouldn't wanna try that in a cougar or RG31. Rough terranin wise the HMMWV is the way to go.

Gas mileage is pretty crappy it has a 350hp CAT motor with 800 ft pounds of torque and ways about 20 tons. You get a huge inverter with it you can hook up an MP3 player and charge robot batteries with. Comfortable seats with an awesome 4 point harness lots of internal and external storage space. Great internal lighting dualzone climate control room for explosives and MotherF*ckers with guns. Powersteering and an autimatic Transmission comes standard IED tuned suspension and body work. Weapons rack a place to hang your camel back external ordnance storage Emergency egress hatch. To much to lists.

Awesome pics, they look right out of a Mad Max movie!

Mamba.  The Mamba is basically an up-armored UniMog.  They're a little underpowered, but agile and tough.

Cool and effective vehicles, but the big problem with them is that they can't be built fast enough.

Thats one of the factors in the whole uparmoured HUMVEE issue. It was faster to uparmor HUMVEEs at a rate of about 450/month than wait for for much safer vehicles like the Force Protection Inc stuff.

We have the capacity to up armor 450 Humvees a month?

Sounds way too high to me.

I think the company(s) that did it did have a max capacity of 350 or so, but they were able expand/accelerate/overload to hit the higher rate.
