Is there an iPod accessory that will allow me to hook my shuffle (gen1) directly to my sterio? If so, what is it called?

The docking stations I have seen are for nanos and above.

Pretty much. Any store that sells audio cables (including musical instrument stores like Guitar Center), or any Radio Shack, sells them.

You can also buy just about any cable from Parts Express.
