Free install.
I tried for DirecTV but the guy who came out said the tree in the neighbors yard two houses over was blocking it. The guy who is doing the Dish said the guy should have got up on the roof, and that a high mounting bracket for the dish would have been fine.

So in about a half hour or so I should have Dish Network TV with the DVR. We mainly wanted it all for the DVR. Our basic cable provider basically wants to assrape us for an upgrade form basic cable to digital with DVR. So I'll be glad to place the "we want to cancel" call today.

Not to mention the cable service itself sucks. We've been paying for internet from that company that doesn't work and when we called them back after the guy came out to say it was assed up they said it was our fault. Plus the reception for the cable itself is crap on some channels.

I can't wait to start TiVo'ing shit. Not to mention a few extra channels we don't get with cable. We went with the 160 top channels. The enxt one up only had a few more that were appealing so we went cheaper.

Keep an eye on what they're up to, some of those installers just punch holes in the wall and do it as cheap and fast as they can!

Other than that I think you'll enjoy it.  I used to have it and I miss it now, though we had a Dish DVR that kinda sucked and a couple times it randomly choked and deleted everything on the hard drive.

Even went so far as to yank the old VCR out of the entertainment center shelf to make room for the box. Time to catch up with the 21st century!!

I had Dish Network HD installed a few weeks ago.

Bought a new HDTV, DVD, and subscribed to NetFlix.

Life is good.

Make sure the DVR has plenty of air circulation; the quickest way to kill any hard disk based recorder is stick it in a rack where it cannot get enough air flow to cool it.

It's got decent airflow... enough that all kinds of dust gets into the space.

So far so good. It's up and running. I'm a little disappointed that they wait until you have everything put in before mentioning that you can't record while watching another channel.
It's not a big deal since we have two TV's and it just defaults to recording on the other TV. I'm not sure if this is the norm or if TiVo or DirecTV or Comcast work differently.

The Guide menu thing is a little big a cluttered. The one for DirecTV seems a little more streamlined. But again... not a big deal.
