Just bought a used Ruger P-89. Posted about it a while back. LOVE IT. The only problem is, it only came with one mag, when I was lead to believe it came with two. Now, I've been scanning all over GunBroker, and I've come a across a couple ProMag manufactured magazines. Definitely after-market, but are ProMag's magazines reliable? Any help is appreciated!

When I worked at a shop/range we sold them. For some guns they sucked for others they were ok, actually for the most part they worked well. Bear in mind that was in the 90's, they could be a whole different story now.

The Ruger ones were ok. I had one for my CZ that never gave me a problem.

I bought 2 for a S&W 5906. They are complete pieces of shit.
They did run smooth for the first 100 rounds or so each but now they're only good for practicing misfire drills because they jam every few rounds.

Ruger mags aren't that expensive.  I think Midway sells them.

Damn. I see them advertised in Shotgun News all the time. Figured they might have a greater rep. Also, there are a lot of Mec-Gar magazines. Same story with this manufacturer?

I think Mec-Gar is the OEM for Sig's mags.

Nope--Mec-Gar makes many of the factory mags.  Beretta mags are Mec-Gar.

Thanks for the heads up on Mec-Gar! I'm happy with having just one mag for getting the feel of the pistol, but one can never have enough magazines.

In my opinion, ProMags are ok for range mags.  While I've had few issues with them, I would still be reluctant to "carry" a gun with one loaded up.
