"I need some specific examples from people who have been "hurt" in a defense situation due to the limitations placed on weapons in the assault weapons ban."
The Assault weapons ban did not restrict ownership of weapons.
It was a silly, feel good piece of legislation that restricted citizens from possessing a bayonet lug, collapsible stock, or flash suppressor on their rifle. Since these items are not normally mandatory in a defense situation, it would be impossible to prove that somebody got "hurt" by not possessing them.
On the other hand, I am very hurt that I have to abide by all manner of arcane and convoluted laws, and live in fear of my own government, just so that I can provide reasonable protection to my family.
I suggest that you broaden your topic to include all those hurt by gun control in general. Good luck. Don't be surprised if you get a low grade, as most college academics have strong liberal bias.
