BACKGROUND

I was a witness to a disturbing traffic-related incident last night.  The car which initiated the incident had a sticker on its rear window which gave a web site address (a URL).  I was only able to read part of the URL before I had to back off and could not read the whole URL.

QUESTIONS

How do I search for a URL (www.name goes here.*)?

Is there a way to search for a web site if you know only part of the URL?

Is there a way to get a listing of only URL's rather than a list of topics (such as, books, movies, etc.)?

If I use Google, it uses the search phrase (www.name goes here.*) to find everything possible except URL's.

Be sure to exercise caution when involving yourself in someone else's affairs.

The site above was one of the top results when I searched google.com for "domain names."

I was involved.  I was one party involved in the incident.  No one was injured, there was no crash or other property damage but I did witness one of the most blatantly wreckless and dangerous events in all my forty years of driving.

I do not have the complete domain name.  I have only part of it.  I do not even know if it was a ".com" or a ".org".

Let me give a hypothetical example.  Let's pretend the domain is www.mikemills.com.

All I have is www.mike.  How can I find a listing of all domain names that start with www.mike?  Is there somewhere I can go to search for www.mike*.*?

I also have the license plate number of the car.  Yes, the incident and plate number was reported to the police.  Is it possible to find the name of the registered owner if you know the plate number?

I just read this on a search web site:

NOTE:  No VIN Searches for CA and FL.
Due to state laws, no address will return for California plate searches.

My question regarding web sites remains.

Well, I am not posting what I have but here is some more.  A long boring write up follows:

I was driving home from a ski trip.  A line of cars was travelling along a two lane highway at 75 to 80 mph.  We came up on a pair of cars going much slower (~60 mph).  As we approached the two, the trailing car pulled into the left lane along side the other car and began to pace it, effectively obstructing traffic in both lanes.

The lead vehicle in the pack of cars approaching from the rear pulled into the left lane behind one of the two slower cars and flashed its headlights (a common courtesy signal described in the CA Driver's Handbook).

As more and more traffic piled up behind the two obstructing cars both the driver and passenger of the vehicle in the left lane made a "rude gesture" with their hands.  Any doubt about the deliberateness of their intention to obstruct traffic vanished.

No problem,...yet.  We all followed along and our lead vehicle periodically flashed headlights at the car obstructing the left lane.

All of a sudden, one of our SUV's surged forward and came within inches of the rear bumper of the car in the right lane - within inches at 70 mph and a large cluster of tailgating cars behind!  The car in the right lane did not respond.  The SUV dropped back a small amount.  The car in the left lane, however, eased slightly to the left opening a larger gap between the two obstructing vehicles - bad move!  The SUV surged forward again driving down the middle of the road as if to wedge between the two obstructing vehicles.  Again, he came within inches (2" or 3") of the right rear quarter-panel of the car obstructing the left lane and within inches of the rear bumper of the car in the right lane.

By this point I had stepped on my brake and had dropped back.

As I see it the the two vehicles were needlessly and deliberately obstructing traffic.

The SUV was reckless driving, endangering himself and all others on the highway.

Is it possible the entire incident was staged, including the SUV's "attack"?  Certainly the obstruction of traffic was deliberate.  Who would be crazy enough to attempt to push the two vehicles aside in a high speed game of "chicken" with real lives at risk?

Which when talking about a publicly-displayed URL is just kinda odd.

i see this about once a week down here.  i hate driving into san antonio because there are so many idiots on the road... and it's getting to be just as bad in the municipalities north of san antonio.

anyways, we could probably guess the name of the site if we had your piece of the URL, and a make and model would help if the website is vehicle related.

Thank you, zrxc77.

I have seen intentional obstruction before.  In every prior instance it was Mexican farm workers out joy riding after work looking to hassle the tourists.  In this case it was young adult, anglo males looking to hassle the skiers (perhaps it was a socio-economic statement or something).  I was content to follow behind as long as someone was periodically flashing their high beams in the rear view mirror of the obstructionist - fair is fair.

What the SUV did went WAY over the line.  He could have caused an accident and killed a lot of good people.
