My husband related to me tonight that he only dreams in black and white.  I thought this was odd.  I dream in full color and figured everyone does.  Just curious to see if anyone else dreams in only black and white.

It varies for me, sometimes black and white, sometimes color, but color is more frequent.

Color, usually.  Black and white sometimes.

Had a dream (in color) last night that I needed to use an AK and the damn thing jammed.  I have been wanting to share that on arfcom, but didn't want to start a thread about it!  Figure this'll do .

It varies. It's generally unremarkable, but one I can remember very vividly - I could see everything in shades of grey, but primary colors were vibrant. I remember red being especially visible (and no, I never saw Sin City or anything like that).

Ah, I don't have any data to back that up - it's something I learned back in undergrad screwl.  I did enjoy learning about dreams.

Wow, I'm sorry.  I went through periods more as a kid than as an adult of horrible dreams.  I hope they get better for you.  The majority of mine I can't remember and 9 times out of 10 just before they get really good........I wake up!

It seems to me I read once-upon-a-time studies had shown that most people dream in black and white.

I usually have rather vivid dreams but guess I've never payed attention, but I think I dream in color.

Again for me usually color, but occasionally---I think for more dramatic or emotional effect, I'll wind up with a dream in B&W.  These B&W dreams are more intense---not necessarily scary---but have a kind of violence in their intensity.

Color. I had a dream the other night about a young blonde in a pink sweater, my arms around her.
Then my wife woke me to tell me she was leaving for work. Just when it was getting good, too.

84 hours since the last cig. and counting here. And what they say about the nicotine patch making some people's dreams "very vivid" is true. For the last couple of nights my dreams have been long, disturbing, and in Technicolor w/ surround sound.

I recall reading dreams only occur in the REM stage. Shortly after falling asleep, and before waking. In deep sleep you won't dream.
I've been dreaming all night as of late. Been sleeping on a futon in the basement. Not restful at all.

I dream in color,  with depth perception (3D),  and all my other senses function as well.  Taste, touch, smell, hearing.     I've had dreams that exercised all of these senses.

And on several occasions I've become fully conscious while still asleep.   That is a very
disconcerting feeling.    The first couple of times it happened,  I thought I'd just
woken up from normal sleep but found that I couldn't do something that I should always
be able to do.  (I can't remember precisely what it was.)    Eventually I realized I was still
asleep, and at that point I began to feel my physical body still in the bed, but dimly.

I tried to wake myself up by a variety of methods and it wasn't working.  That was a bit
scary.  Eventually I tried to talk or call for help...actually I figured I'd try to scream for help
after that didn't work.  Attempting to scream was the trick.   I woke up and heard myself
grunting or moaning as I did so.

So I know how to wake myself up for real if I find myself conscious while still asleep again.

But instead of doing that,  I'd rather try to explore the dream state while conscious
within it.   See what I can conjure up.    Maybe it'll be several hot brunettes!

Fortunately they are pretty rare

I dream with full sensory perception - it's just like I'm awake.

Sometimes, in my dream,  I know I'm dreaming and I'll say "I think I will fly now" and I do.  When I'm dreaming and know I'm dreaming it's pretty good times.

When I was young I used to dream in B&W and then Ted Turner colorized them all.

Just teasing.  Honestly, I don't ever remember dreaming in B&W.

Electric blanket EMF fields usually induce some pretty wild all-night dreaming episodes...

I had a dream like that just the other night.

I was in a stone, torch lit 'dungeon' (think dungeons and dragons) that I was adventuring through.  Every level I decended, which always was a large wooden door followed by a decending stone stairway, was potentially more dangerous than the next.

At one point every level I had gone down was nothing but spooky but harmless.  I vividly remember opening the doorway to the next set of stairs down, only to be immediately spear tackled by a rotting zombie.  My companion(who oddly enough I never saw in my dream, but was with me nonetheless) wrestled it off of me and we put it down by beating the hell out of it.

After the fight I remember being pissed off because my shirt stunk like zombie.  Right then I realized I was dreaming, attempted to wake up but I couldn't... that was the first time that ever happened.  Usually I'm up in a flash.  Anyways, I decided to stick the dream out and go down another set of stairs.

Being in total direct control of my dream persona, I decided to play it safe and crack open the next door to peek down the stairs before opening the door all the way.  Right when I cracked the door my two cats (black cat and orange tabby) of whom were not with me at any point in the dream bolted downstairs.  I opened the door all the way to see my cats getting attacked by waves upon waves of black cat and orange tabby adults and kittens.

I charged downstairs, wielding my trusty 5" folder, to slay cat and kitten alike.

That was about all the absurdity I could handle.  I woke up during my gallant melee versus the attacking housecats.

If I can direct my dreams in a lucid fashion,  I'm going to have to start wearing condoms to bed because the goal will be some truly AWESOME wet dreams!

Wouldn't it be totally freakish to have a dream like that, about (in my case) a girl I know
and want to lay,  and later on,  I end up talking to her and discover that on the night of
that dream,  she dreamed she was getting laid by me?

That'd be freakish.   And I hope it happens, some day!
