Can you name five hard-leftwing Senators? Pretty easy, eh? Now can you name ten hard-leftwing Senators? Now name five hard-rightwing Senators. Okay then, how about just naming one. We're screwed. That is all. |

The American Conservative Union rates 10 Senators who will be returning as voting 100% conservative in the outgoing Congress: Jeff Session John Kyl Mel Martinez Johhny Isakson Mike Crapo Sam Brownback Mitch McConnell John Ensign James Inhoffe Tom Coburn They only gave 8 Senators a 0% rating. |
The ACU grades congress critters by their past votes on bills that reflect conservative values. Even hard core lefties like Feinstein might occasionally vote in favor of a bill that agrees with the ACU's opinion so a senator would have to try pretty hard to get a zero rating. Of the ten senators listed, the ones that I'm most comfortable with are Jon Kyl and Sam Brownback. I trust both to vote correctly on most, if not all, issues. Another senator who has solid conservative leanings, especially on gun matters, is Larry Craig from Idaho. Outside of those gentlemen, I don't care for most of the senators. They tend to be more enamored with their position in the senate than with a concern for conservative values or the constitution. There are more (or there were, until the last election) congress members who have earned my respect. |
By some. He got a 96% favorable rating from the ACU and a lifetime record of 83%. Here's a chart with the ACU's ratings of senators for 2005 - www.acuratings.org/2005Senate.htm |

Sen. Richard Shelby R-AL Sen. Jeff Sessions R-AL ETA: I attended a Hometown meeting with Sen. Shelby. One of those deals where the Senator speaks and then answers questions from the audience. I was in uniform. I asked him a gun control legislation. He said, "The people of Alabama did not elect me to infringe their Second Amendment rights". |
Paging SteyrAUG to sing the praises of "conservative" Mel Martinez. |
It seems they slipped a few wolves in with the sheep. |
The GAO rating is based on only 6 votes. In two of the six, he voted against their stance. One of these was as part of the horse trading involved in not passing an AWB renewal. Kyl voted for the silly ammunition study amendment which would have been part of the AWB, a bill he voted against. Many other solid RKBA Senators also votged for the ammo study. It's called politics. It's not like he voted for a bill that actually became law. Oddly enough, the GOA does NOT include the Protection of Lawful Commerce Act as one of the key votes used to rate Senators.

Hell, I'll do it. If they consider Martinez to vote 100% conservative, then they must not include voting on issues relating to illegals. |
The last 2 are from Oklahoma.. not bad outta 50 states
