My wife and MIL have put up a feeder for the squirrels in my yard.  We get a kick out of watching them.  We have several large red squirrel's and one small on that we can't identify.  We're curious as to what species it is, I've not seen one like it before.  We originally thought it was a juvenile red squirrel because it's very similair to the others just a lot smaller but it hasn't gotten any bigger since spring.

Here's a few pics I took a few minutes ago, I'll try to a pic of the red squirrel's for scale but this little guy appears to be about 6" long from his nose to his rear end (not including his tail).  He's also extremely fast and hard to follow when he's going through the trees.

The only thing I'd feed one of those things is bait.

Looks like a red squirrel.

Almost looks like a pine squirrel, similar to what we have here in the Rockies, but the coloring is a little different.

I believe that is what my mom would call a Piney .
I just call them tree rats .
They are fun to shoot .
They are actually VERY closely related to the rat  just with a fluffy tail .

Yeah, but look at it's jaw in the last pic... Either it's mouth is open or it's not what we have?

BTW, I love squirrels and miss them very much. Almost every day I would see one, two or three new squirrels in the yard. I guess I killed them all off, because it's been 3 years and I haven't seen a single one.
