Donald Trump Files $10 Million Lawsuit Against Palm Beach After Being Cited for Large Flag

Sunday , December 24, 2006

PALM BEACH, Florida — Donald Trump is suing this oceanside town for $10 million after being cited for flying an oversized U.S. flag over his Mar-a-Lago Club.

Attorneys for the club filed a complaint Thursday, saying that flying the flag is a constitutionally protected expression of free speech — and that the large flag is a proper match for the size of the real-estate mogul's patriotism.

Town officials said Trump violated zoning codes when the lavish club hoisted a 15-by-25-foot flag atop an 80-foot pole on Oct. 3. The citation was for having a flagpole taller than 42 feet, for not obtaining a building permit and for not getting permission from the landmarks board.

"A smaller flag and pole on Mar-A-Lago's property would be lost given its massive size, look silly instead of make a statement, and most importantly would fail to appropriately express the magnitude of Donald J. Trump's and the Club's members' patriotism," the lawsuit says.

A phone message left at the mayor and town council's office was not returned Saturday.

In the lawsuit, Trump's attorneys accuse the town of selectively enforcing its ordinances. Other locations in the town display flags that violate statutes, the lawsuit alleges.

All damages awarded to the club would be donated to veterans of the war in Iraq, the lawsuit said.

Trump had until Nov. 27 to apply for approvals or else he faced a Dec. 21 hearing that could have resulted in fines costing $250 per day. It was unclear Saturday whether that meeting took place.

"The day you need a permit to put up the American flag, that will be a sad day for this country," Trump said in October.

If you had any idea of his past financial disasters you might question it yourself.  The information is all out there, go look it up.  Rosie may be a worthless twat but she did have a valid point about his past bankruptcies.

How's your personal balance sheet compare?

Maybe Rosie's compares favorably to his, so she may have some room to criticize.  Then again maybe hers doesn't and she's just jealous that he can declare bankruptcy and STILL have more money than her.  Maybe she should consider that she's a big fat dyke with questionable levels of remaining talent currency.

Also, bankruptcy has been used as a tool of ruthless businessmen for some time now.

I don't believe that Donald J. Trump has ever personally declared bankruptcy.  His corporations and holdings certainly have.  The statement that Rosie made implied that Donald himself has been bankrupt.  Donald sounds like he's going to earn a few bucks at her expense for being slandered.

A fool and her money shall be soon parted.

Exactly.  Also in most of Trumps businesses he is only part of the operation and has other partners.  Just because a business venture fails doesn't mean it was 100% Trumps fault.  Trump has never personally declared bankruptcy.  Trump mainly uses his name and high level of quality in the business ventures.  Rosie in her attempt to bad mouth Trump and damage him falsely claimed he personally filed for bankruptcy.  Personal bankrupty and high level of quality don't go together, so her remarks completely slandard his personal reputuation which is the main driving force behand the Trump brand.  She is so screwed if he actually does file suit.

Now some of his enterprises or holdings have declared bankruptcy, but that's not the same.

First of all, Donald Trump is a complete DICK.

His recent verbal battle with Rosie is like watching two retarded kids fight over a cookie.
As neither one of them has a clue to the real world.

It doesnt take alot of research to find skeletons in his past, especially when it comes to his business dealings.

He is a liar, cheat and completely untrustworthy, even to members of his own family.

And although his lawsuit pertaining to the flag issue seems admirable, I can assure that his motives are purely self serving no matter what he and his lawyers say.

Anyone who worships or admires "The Don", needs to do a little bit of research. As he is total scum.

Many people/businesses use declaration of bankruptcy as a way to get out of paying on lawsuits, etc. Dont' quite know the logistics of it all, but if there is one ruthless businessman out there, it's Trump. That is not the best employment that I’m able to get! I work there because I was asked to, plus it pays for school and other expenses. He treats his employees like crap! We used to get paid double time for working the holiday now all we get is a $25.00 gift card to either Best Buy or Wal-Mart. He pays outside contracts millions of dollars to come in and try to renovate the property but that and that alone will not bring the people in. They need to offer them a lot more then a nice property. The Borgota and Tropicana are number 1 in the city due to they have so much more to offer the patrons, free rooms, dinners, and trips. He goes on talk shows and gives away million year or a million there that’s just for publicity.

eta-
Another little tidbit about his "companies" bankruptcy issues, although I do realize that alot of companies utilize the protection of bankrupcy laws, but this is ridiculous.
I guess there is a fine line between being a businessman or a con-man.

en.wikipedia.org - Bankruptcy - By 1990, the effects of recession left him unable to meet loan payments. Although he shored up his businesses with additional loans and postponed interest payments, increasing debt brought Trump to business bankruptcy and the brink of personal bankruptcy. Banks and bond holders had lost hundreds of millions of dollars, but opted to restructure his debt to avoid risking losing even more in a court fight. Things were so bleak for Trump at this time that in the August 21, 1990 edition of the Jersey Record, columnist Mike Kelly wrote "If we still had debtors' prisons, Trump would be in the dungeon." Kelly added that "Donald Trump is a Third World Nation." Also in 1990, he co-produced the game show Trump Card in syndication. By 1994, Trump had eliminated a large portion of his $900 million personal debt and reduced significantly his nearly $3.5 billion in business debt. While he was forced to relinquish the Trump Shuttle (which he had bought in 1989), he managed to retain Trump Tower in New York City and control of his three casinos in Atlantic City. Chase Manhattan Bank, (which lent Trump the money he needed to buy the West Side yards, his biggest Manhattan parcel) forced a sale of the parcel to Asian developers.

Please read what I wrote.

Where did I say or even imply Trump was infallible?  Now you are saying that I am defending his character.  Where did I do that?

Let me restate the point that apparently was to obscure for some of you to understand:

I am sick of people who belittle their employers yet are unable or maybe just to lazy to get a better job.  People who are able to get better jobs do.  People who don't - can't get a better job.  The people who bad mouth their employers typically like to blame someone else for their pathetic existance.

If you can't get a job someplace else whereby you will be paid more or treated better, why is that your current employers fault or justification for belittling him or her?
