This a link to photos of Halifax International airport with runways full of diverted planes. I also want to share a couple of stories.
2 passengers from England that were stranded in Halifax were a young couple on their way to Vegas to be married. They had been planning this trip for over a year. They along with 10 of their family members were staying with 2 local families. One of the hosts decided to organize a wedding ceremony for the couple. Even cloths for the wedding party had to be provided as the passengers couldn't get their luggage.
Local businesses donated everything from the brides dress,flowers and salon services to portrait photography, catering and the wedding cake. A limousine service provided a car and to give the wedding that Canadian touch 2 Royal Canadian Mounted Police in their famous red serge tunics acted as an escort for the wedding party.
Halifax airport,Red Cross workers,emergency measures staff and hundreds of volunteers came together to look after 7000 stranded airline passengers. 270 000 meals were served at 18 temporary shelters. 9000 toiletry kits were given out and 3500 cots were flown in from Ottawa.
As happened when Swiss Air flight 111 crashed off our coast..Nova Scotians opened their homes and hearts to total strangers from around the world. People who a day before these tragedy's would never have met are life long friends now bonded by a simple act of giving.
To quote Alan G. Ringgold retired Deputy assistant Director of the FBI who was among the 7000 stranded passengers in Halifax "Canadians have earned his awe and respect after several cities helped thousands of diverted travelers. It was a challenge of major proportions to every aspect of your cities and in my view you shone".

I often joke here with members who tell me I should move to the States to get away from the Canadian gun laws. What I quoted and wrote above are 2 of the biggest reasons I will never leave Nova Scotia or Canada. It is my home and if any of you were ever stranded here for whatever reason it would become your home in time of need.
I don't want people to think I'm trying to take away from all the heroes in the US who are going above and beyond right now. I just wanted to give you a view of what we are doing here to help and to let you know you are not alone.

BTT'd so people can see the pics. To an airport like LA ex or O'Hara these many planes are probably normal. Up here that many on the ground at once is unbelievable.
