There's a WO thread going on.

Over the years I have addressed Marines of all ranks simply as 'Marine'.

Do you think the CMC would take offense to being addressed that way?

I always used there rank and last name or atleast rank to address them

"Commandant" or "General Conway" would be the proper form of address, Pic.

You're a civilian. You can address him as Marine if you like. He will not be (should not be) offended. But as a former Marine, I don't think I could bring myslef to do it.

I'd call him SIR in capital letters.
If anyone has his phone number or email please PM me... I need him to sign something for me.

Nope, A Marine is what He is and is fine if you are a civilian.

I would call Him “Sir” as I did my time and that would be the correct way for me to address Him.
When I was in, if a Civilian called me a Marine that was fine with me. I have been called worse.
If a higher-ranking Marine called me “Marine” I knew I was in trouble.

There is an old saw somewhere that if you called an AF General 'airman' the CNO 'sailor' or the Army Chief of Staff 'soldier' they would be offended.

But the CMC is prouder than punch to be called a Marine.

In my corrospondence years ago, I have addressed both CMCs Krukak and Mundy as "Marine' and inside sources tell me both liked that.

There's a lot to be said for an organization where you can address the greenest recruit and the most senior officer with the same title and both are proud to be addressed that way.

"Marine" okay for you, not for me (I'm an active Marine).

I spoke with him when he was the I MEF CG and used "General" and "Sir" and he seemed to be all right with that.

He called me "Top".

Oldie but goodie:

A soldier, a sailor, and an airman, got into a fight about which service is best. The fight was so heated, that they killed each other.

Soon, they found themselves in Heaven. They see St. Peter walk by and ask him: "Which Branch of Service is the best?" St. Peter replied: "I can't answer that, but, I will ask God what He thinks the next time I see him."

Sometime later, the three see St. Peter again and ask him if he was able to find the answer. Suddenly, a dove landed on St. Peter's shoulder. The dove was carrying a note in it's beak. St. Peter opened the note and read it out loud to the three fellows: "Gentlemen: All the Branches of the Service are 'Honorable and Noble'. Each one of you has served your country well. Be proud of that.

Signed,

GOD
