Which is your favorite.  And is it your favorite due to price or the probability they'll have the shit you'll need?

Napa here rocks.

...oh yeah...they carry the oil I prefer for my cummins.

...that and the staff can carry on with a decent conversation and I don't feel like I'm in wal-mart.

I guess Advance Auto Parts is finally buying CSK (Cragen, Shucks, and Kenechts) and I also heard that 12 CEO's from CSK were just fired after $91 Million came up missing.

When I lived in the detroit area, and factored in price Autozone was the only way to go. I did have a napa two houses down that I went to most of the time for convenience on smaller stuff though.

I have to give it to Advance Auto.  A lot of auto parts stores are condecending or unhelpful.  AA doesn't give me a hard time about anything and they're always helpful and quick.  I have a wonderfully consistent experience with all of them.

Napa's are usually locally owned and staffed by people who actually know shit about cars.

I like the old fashioned neighborhood stores. The guys that were around before Autozone and the like. The owner is usually the guy behind the counter. He has a real stake in his business and knows what he's doing.

NAPA.  Advance and auto zone parts are not nearly of the same quality as a comparable napa part, at least none that I have used.

My personal favorite is Car Quest - They seem to have very good quality parts - right up there with Delco or Beck-Arnley -  for roughly the same price you'd pay at Auto Zone, Advance/Shuck's/Pep Boys, etc.

The premium-grade NAPA stuff is also pretty decent, but their economy-grade stuff isn't.

NAPA, usually the quality is better.

I generally order parts for my vehicle from online parts places that specialize in that car.  That said, I generally hit the autozone in my town for basic off the shelf stuff like oil, filters, etc.  I've had too many instances of the guys behind the counter at most parts stores either being dicks, know-it-alls, or kids with little knowledge. That's a common problem with all the stores, so I'm not particular to autozone, they just fit the bill of being close and so far having what I needed when I needed it.

We don't have CSK here.  I like NAPA because the one in town has a machine shop in the back and they can usually get parts Advance and Autozone can't.  They usually hire good people too, unlike the glorified cashiers that are usually found behind the counters at AA and AZ

I went to Kragen [Checker to some of you] for a transmission gasket and filter for my '02 Nissan Frontier 4x4. Also to get front wheel bearing seals to repack the bearings.

They didn't have either item. They couldn't order them. Not available.

I went to Napa. The wheel bearing seals were in stock, they ordered the filter/pan gasket.

+1.

There are a handful of new car dealers that sell OEM-branded parts at discount prices on the internet. Granted, they still aren't quite as cheap as the local budget chain stores, but the quality more than makes up for the difference.

I am a manager at AutoZone, and will agree that most places, including AutoZone, hire nothing more than glorified cashiers, but you get what you pay for (the business that is). We have called the dealerships many times on different parts and there are times when their prices are less then ours.

NAPA here. Great people, a machine shop and good products.

Across the street is a CarQuest. They suck ass and charge more than NAPA does.

Checker is building a new store out by Walmart but I'll still be getting my stuff at NAPA.
