I downloaded the newest update for Internet Explorer.  It is the 7.0.5730.11 version.

It is okay and will take some getting used to.  But it changed some Security settings and I can't figure out how to fix them.

When I get an e-mail and it has a link in it, I used to be able to just click it and it opened up a browser and went to the site.  Now I click it and nothing happens.  I have to copy and paste in a browser.

Also, I notice that I seem to be getting a lot of red X's for pics on AR15.com that I used to be able to see.

Anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks.

Be careful, I heard the new IE 7 f's with Firefox settings.  I also heard it gets automatically downloaded if you have your PC setup to do auto updates from MS.  I use Firefox as well, much better than IE.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I didn't like it when it downloaded on me. I did a system restore and went back to the old version. If it downloads again start the installation process then tell it not to install. It will not download again or ask to be installed.

Well, if all else fails, I guess I'll have to do a system restore.

I kind of hate to do that, because there may be some good things in ths version that I will miss.

Anyone else have any idea?

I also downloaded IE7 and realized I did not like it so I did a system restore and it went back to the old version it would not connect to the internet after that so I reversed the restore back to IE7 and now I connect again. What the hell was that about?

Well heck!  That doesn't sound so good.

At least I can still connect to the internet.

You ever hear the saying "if it's not broke leave it alone" well I should have left it alone. I have a bad habit doing that with everything (not just computers).

Out of curiosity, why did you guys do a system restore to get rid of IE7?  I tried IE7 as well, but didn't like.  I just went into the control panel and then to the "add or remove programs".  It uninstalled it easily.

Would that automatically take you back to your original version?

It did in my case.  I didn't have to do anything else.

Anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks.

I must say that your honesty is refreshing.

If I am anything, I am honest.

But that usually means I am an honest idiot.

OP, for the Outlook Express problem try making IE7 your default browser. Go to the tool menu on the bottom toolbar far right on your IE7 page:

The red X problem sounds like it may be a Windows firewall issue (just a guess).  Try turning the firewall off and see if that fixes the problem.  If it does, you can do some trial and error to find out which setting(s) is causing the problem.  Good luck!

But thanks for the try.

Well, I uninstalled it and it looks like I'm back in familiar territory.

Dilbert_556 has the answer to your question.  I was on the phone for over an hour with Microsoft dealing with your issue and others.  IE 7 has had so many problems they have dedicated a unit just to answer questions.  For a limited time thet will answer questions free of charge if they are IE 7 related.  Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info, Gatorfan.

I believe I'll just wait a while for them to work out all the problems and then give it another try at some future date.
