Anything I should avoid?

If I was to buy one again I would buy a corded model and avid the batteries.  My batts don't seem to last long.  Dremels aren't like battery drills where you are using them in lots of remote places.  Generally I use mine at my workbench where pleny o power is available.  Just a thought.

Just buy lot's of extra cutting wheels.

I tend to either eat through them, or break them

Yes, good advise.

I've switched over to those too

Also, Dremel has a new quick change head I just bought - haven't tried it yet, but looks fun

I got Dremel on my Christmas list. Don't know what I need one for but I will think of something.

Whats the best model?

Avoid dropping it on the collet...

Still works, but every time I use it, I figure it will be the last.

This is the model I have.  It is my second Dremel, and first that is only a 2-speed.  It still works wonderfully, but I do regret not getting another variable speed one.

Mine has like 8 speeds

I have one and that tool is PRICELESS! I cannot tell you how many times it has saved my ass.

It is DEFINITELY money well spent.

Oh and if you are a member of Costco, they have that 140 pc tool bit set for something like 19.99

I have had it for two years and I use it all the time. Yeah some bits have bit the dust but what do you want for 20 bucks?

i have not gotten one as i have high speed tools at work that function the same.  take stuff into work and....  i should break down and get one.

Get lots of cutting wheels, they don't last long.  Also, buy the little guide that goes on the end.  Makes a lot of difference if you're doing any precision work.

dissenter here

Dremels are a completely and utterly worthless gimmick tool.

I've had one for years, I've used it once.  Total waste.  (and I work on motorcycles, cars, tractors and all kinds of  other stuff)
there are tools that do what you need to do that actually work

Save your money.

Dremels rule!

Avoid the cordless ones, they never have the power I need.

It's one of my favorite and most-used tools.

Yeah, get the fiber-reinforced cut-off wheels for anything metal.
