Let's just pretend i was at work and was viewing some websites i shouldn't have been.  How would i go about PERMANENTLY removing these files from the drive?  Is that even possible?

TIA

Tools.  Options.  Look for the clear cache and clear temporary internet files or clear internet history buttons.

But if the company has some network monitoring looking for that sort of thing, than it's all in a log on a server somewhere, and your screwed.

Of course your viewing was most likely logged somewhere else that you have no access to............

Go to your Start menu, pick Search for files or folders.

Type in *.DLL, and check the "Search Subfolders" box.

When the search is complete, do a shift/delete on all the files the search finds.

They'll never know you were there...

Right.  And they didn't implant a microscopic GPS unit in you during your last colonoscopy.

Remember - shiny side out, and three sides of equal length on the hat.

What operating system?  Some of the earlier MS ones kept hidden files that took more effort to find and delete.  Not sure if the new stuff has the same hidden stuff going on.

That brought you to eighteen different independant gay porn websites...?  I don't see that working.

Not sure if this is really enough, but Googling "XP home forensics history cache" brings  up  this among others:

If you delete temporary files and history, they will probably still show up in the registry.  Try this...

Start menu
 Run
type  "regedit"  (with no quotation marks)
This will bring up the registry editor

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
  Software
  Microsoft
  Internet Explorer
  Typed URLs
Delete the naughty ones.

In addition to cookies, temp files, etc., there are index.dat files that track your activities.

I have used Crap Cleaner for a few years. It will clean all temporary Internet and index.dat files.

I have never had a problem with the Internet Explorer features, but I suggest you use caution if you decide to use the "System" cleaning functions. That's not because the program is "buggy", its just best to avoid those functions unless you really understand what you are doing...

I am not hitting bad sites, I just do not believe anyone has any need to keep a record

clicking delete and emptying the recycle bin is usually all you need to do.

If you're really paranoid you can format the hard drive.  Then reinstall the operating system and all the programs and I hope you've made copies of all the important files.  as you'll have to reload those too.

If you're really really paranoid There are tools you can download that format the Hard drive then write random info to it then repeat a number of times.

When you delete a file it doesn't get deleted just the first letter of the file gets deleted,IE  you delete EXE  the file now shows _XE  !

I really liked windows 6.1 because you could use undelete and just add any #and the last two diggets and recover any deleted files.

After you delete files unless you down-load new files over them they are still there!

Even if you delete History files, and Temp files, untill they are recorded over they are retrievable!

I may be wrong but then again I didn't download porn on my boss'es computer!

For future Pr0n viewing I would suggest building a proxy at home and using that via an encrypted channel. Its how I view this site at work, my corp uses websense and guns are a no-no.

DBAN

Your screwed if your company has a proxy server and it is logging all sites visited by users.
