If you're even remotely interested in this subject, you have got to see "Riding Giants". It's an incredible movie which goes back to the begining of big wave riding and ends up with Laird Hamilton taking on waves that will drop your jaw.

I love board sports...snowboarding, surfing, wakeboarding...you name it. Even if you don't do those sports, there is no way in hell to see a guy like Laird Hamilton taking on waves close to 100 feet high and not be stunningly impressed.

I learned to surf in Mexico at Matanchen at a spot called stoners and have been in 6 footers, but this stuff is insane. Goofy footer

I grew up in Hawaii (Oahu) & I have been in the North Shore during winter. Ever try to swim under 30's? They'll pick you up off the bottom & take you up the beach.

Talk about feeling powerless in the face of nature. All you can do is hang on for the ride!

Yeah I was stationed at Wheeler from 90-92 when they turned it over to the Army. We used to go to the Sugar Bar in Wailua and I learned the hard way about riptides and almost drowned. Hmmmmmmmmm the lobsters we would get at Haliewa.
