so you've got some money to toss away? must be nice. i'm not sure but last time i saw a wilson 1911 they were asking $2,300, i think. i really couldn't justify spending that much, myself but it's still a free country (kind of).

A Commander frame has a shorter dust cover. While a Govt slide will indeed fit & probably work, it will look, well, dorky.....................

I would buy what you want the most: Govt or Commander & then go from there.

not really looking to toss it away,  from what i have read  wilson makes a very good 1911.

are they worth the money or not

That's a very large question indeed, and one that only you can answer.  For me, I'm not sure what the Wilson does that a Springfield TRP doesn't do for half the price.

Of course if you have your heart set on the Wilson and it has some feature that's worth an extra few hundred dollars to you, then its "worth the money" as far as you're concerned.

BobCole is correct on the fitment issues.

Yes, Wilsons are worth the money for a buy-it-now 1911.

To put it another way:

You won't think you got cheated out of cash by buying it. They have a good warantee, provided you DO NOT EVER have the gun worked on by someone else; even if you send it to YoBo to get work done and have a warantee issue afterwards, they (Wilson) will tell you to go pound sand.

The high-end Springfield TRP (weighing in at around the 2k pricetag too) is also a good buy, with a great warantee as well.

Ahem...

Hellfuckyeah.

I have a CQB compact myself along with a good pile of 1911s of various makes, sizes and eras, and nothing else comes close.

For you, I suggest you either go with the CQB and leave it alone, or get the Professional (compact top on a full-size bottom).

In my order:

1) Baer (by far!)

2) Wilson

3) SA

4) Kimber (too many MIM parts for me)

5) Colt (quality control is hit or miss, IMO)

I think for the money I'd spend on a Wilson, I rather call YoBo and wait the wait.

A 1* Enhanced would be beautiful, and personally, I'm certain I'd enjoy it more than the Wilson.

After 1500 rounds my "Springfield Loaded" has only had three malfunctions!

1 Hard primer, causing a misfire!

2 Coat sleeves caught in between the slide and frame from my coat shooting in the winter!

I payed $587 about 5 years ago for it New!
