My 6 year old boy is cross-dominant. I am too and I think it would be better if he wasn't. I asked an optometrist about this and they said there are exercises my boy can do to change the dominance.

Does anyone know what these exercises are?

sounds like the optometrist does.  Have his assistant take a message and call you back with suggestions.  the assistant may also have some idea about it too.

good luck

Why would you do something like that to your son ? Just curious.

I'm pretty sure this problem can be solved with a cheap periscope, a pair of red panties and a HMMWV.....

I changed eye-dominance a long time ago. Used to be left-eye dominant, but I've always been right-handed. For a few years there, I would do some kind of shooting almost every single day, usually at least with a .22 pistol. Now I'm right-eye dominant. I didn't do anything so intentional, it just kind of changed because that's what I always used. Especially when you're shooting with both eyes open, you learn which image to use and which to ignore automatically.

+1 It is a HUGE pain in the ass though.

Well if he's young, maybe there is more chance than with old farts like us.

It may involve an eyepatch though.

I had to wear one in first grade for a bit.  At least pirates are popular now!

I have been doing this for a short time now just for this reason. I'm right handed, left eye dominant. Both eyes open does work and yes it starts off as a pita. I've only been doing it for 3-4 weeks and I can already see a difference. 95% has been doing it while walking around my house aiming at doorknobs or lightswitches or what have you. I would really have to concentrate at first but now I can throw my pistol up real fast and I'm automatically on the right dots, yes dot sights are a neccessaty for this. I really like both eye open shooting now.

Dont change. Just use it.

But if you insist, you can try having him shoot with both eyes open, then gradually move to the other eye.

As a youth I was right handed and left eye dominant.  I was able to change it by spending many hours in the basement shooting my Red Ryder with a patch over my left eye.

BTW: I NEVER SHOT MY EYE OUT!!!!!
