I've been rewatching Day Four of 24 recently.  I know that Jack is sometimes surprised and just finds himself in a gunfight but it seems that he rushes into a known confrontation many times with just a handgun.

Doesn't he know that a sidearm is only used to fight your way to a longarm?

Blasphemy. Jack Bauer needs no longarm to pwn terrorists. But chuck norris might.

Chuck Norris Jack Bauer is not hung like a horse; horses are hung like Chuck Norris Jack Bauer.

Would a Barrett XM-500 be adequate for Jack Bauer?

We all know he needs an FNC

I swear some of you fuckers are retarded.

TV is far from what I wish it was, but it's better now that it has ever been and still you whine like little girls about it.

I didn't whine about shit. I said one show sucked. One show. Not TV in general. I've tried to sit thru an episode of 24 and found it unwatchable, and every clip I've seen after that on forums, YouTube, Google etc...look just as bad. It's hacky, cheesy and lame. And the concept of Keifer Sutherland as some elite badass is beyond the scope of suspension of disbelief.

I think that Jack needs a AR style carbine in .308 with a EOTEC. And select fire.

I didn't care of them the few times I saw them on TV, but sitting down and watching a few in a row they made a better impression. I've watched the ones that are out on DVD and got a kick out of them

His gun handling is bad, but for TV it is not terrible; besides it's a spy show on TV, not Blackhawk Down. The whole thing is a little too far fetched to get wigged out over him shooting cup an saucer or shooting two pistols at once.

Sutherland's a drunk, but why should I care? It's not like he's an EMT or doing something else that's actually important in a day to day sense. Since I don't hang around in trendy LA bars I don't have to worry about him throwing up on my boots....

No, he doesn't.

In one episode, season 5 I think, he HAS a rifle and drops it then goes chasing after an SUV w/ his pistol.

Bauer has longarms in his vehicle but they only come out when there's a real threat, not some routine shit like a nuke or nerve gas.

I think Bauer would only need a 10-22 with a monster scope, then he could pick off terrorists in Iraq from his breakfast nook in Manhattan, just for sport.

Yep.
Besides, it beats the hell outta watching any of the "reality" TV shows

(Yeah, my reality consists of running around an island wearing  swatches of material over my boobs and eating bugs in the hopes I can "outwit" people to win money. )
